Linda Lusardi, 65, reveals her secret to staying slim doesn’t include any ‘diet or gym’ but she admits she ‘never eats before 1pm’

From Hollywood stars like Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, intermittent fasting seems to be the diet du jour.

And now Linda Lusardi has credited the controversial eating trend with helping her maintain her slim and toned appearance as she approaches her 66th birthday.

The former glamor model said she doesn’t restrict what she eats or go to the gym, but she doesn’t let a piece of food pass her lips before 1pm every day.

Linda said she only eats when she is hungry and sometimes goes until 3pm before eating anything. She never eats anything after 10 p.m.

‘I’m a proponent of intermittent fasting – I don’t normally eat until 1pm every day and I stop at 10pm, so you have a good period for your body to process the food,’ she told Best magazine.

‘It suits me very well because I’m not very good at giving up things, I like a glass of prosecco and an Indian or a Chinese [takeaway].

‘And I only eat when I’m hungry – some days I eat until two or three o’clock.’

She said she makes sure she eats plenty of “fruit and vegetables,” plenty of “fish” and only eats meat once a week “with Sunday dinner.”

Linda, who has two children, Lucy, 28, and Jack, 25, with actor husband Samuel Kane, said she has not had plastic surgery but has regular ‘touch-ups’ to maintain her youthful appearance.

“I have ‘adjustments’, no surgeries or anything,” she said.

“Right now I have something called NeoGen [a skin treatment which uses Nitrogen to stimulate the skin] on my face, neck and chest.

‘It only takes half an hour, and you might have a red face a day later, but nothing else.

“It gives you a fuller, more refined skin and also removes blemishes. I think the poster girl for it is Shirley Ballas, who also has it.”

“I’m a big fan of intermittent fasting – I normally don’t eat until 1pm every day and I stop at 10pm, so you have a good window of time for your body to process the food,” she told Best magazine.

Linda, who has two children, Lucy, 28, and Jack, 25, with actor husband Samuel Kane, said she has not had plastic surgery but has regular ‘touch-ups’ to maintain her youthful appearance.

She said that even though she’s “not a gym person,” she “doesn’t stop” and is constantly lifting heavy around the house while they undergo renovations.

“We’re doing renovations in my house right now, most of it ourselves, so I’m always lifting and doing things,” she said.

‘That’s how I get my exercise. And we go for a walk with my son’s girlfriend’s little chihuahua. I’m a very active person.’

Ms Lusardi said she is “looking forward” to receiving her state pension when she turns 66 in September, after “all these years of paying in”.

She says she doesn’t know how old she is, but believes retirees are not “what they used to be” because “we are healthier and keep ourselves in shape.”

Proponents of intermittent fasting claim it is a healthy way to increase energy and remove fat from the body, and former Mail health guru Dr. Michael Mosley is one such proponent.

Celebrities like Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Bruce Springsteen are among those who practice an extreme form of intermittent fasting, where they eat just one meal a day.

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting involves alternating between days of fasting and days of normal eating.

Intermittent fasting diets generally fall into two categories: time-restricted feeding, where eating times are reduced to 6-8 hours per day, also known as the 16:8 diet, and 5:2 intermittent fasting.

The 16:8 diet is a form of intermittent fasting, also known as Time Restricted Eating.

Followers of the eating plan fast 16 hours a day and eat whatever they want in the remaining eight hours – usually between 10am and 6pm.

This may be more tolerable than the well-known 5:2 diet, in which followers limit their calories to 500 to 600 per day for two days a week and then eat normally for the remaining five days.

It is believed that 16:8 intermittent fasting not only promotes weight loss, but also improves blood sugar levels, boosts brain function and helps us live longer.

Many prefer to eat between noon and 8 p.m. as this means they only have to fast overnight and skip breakfast, but can still eat lunch and dinner, along with a few snacks.

When you do eat, it’s best to choose healthy options like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

And drink water and unsweetened drinks.

Disadvantages of the fasting plan can be that people overindulge in the hours they can eat, leading to weight gain.

It can also lead to digestive problems in the long term, as well as hunger, fatigue and weakness.
