One Southampton took their dedication to new heights on Friday night when they incorporated a prosthetic leg into their celebrations as the Saints secured a place in the Championship play-off final.

Russell Martin’s side dominated the second leg against West Brom at St Mary’s, winning 3-1 on the night thanks to a goal and brace from Adam Armstrong’s Will Smallbone.

They take on Leeds at Wembley next weekend as both sides aim for an immediate return to the Premier League after last season’s relegation.

The home crowd were thrilled as the goals flowed in on the south coast, with one supporter rejoicing passionately in the most unique of ways as the tie turned in his team’s favour.

Sky cameras captured the fan enthusiastically waving and twirling the prosthetic after Smallbone’s opener in the 49th minute. Southampton later posted a short video of the man on social media with the caption “limbs.”

Unfortunately, the joyful scenes soon gave way to chaos as supporters from both clubs appeared to throw missiles at each other at the end of the match.

After the match whistle, hundreds of home fans stormed the pitch to celebrate their side reaching the final, appearing to chase away the supporters before the scenes turned ugly.

Footage from social media appeared to show a rocket being thrown into a crowd on the pitch from what appeared to be the away corner, while a supporter threw another into the stands.

It is unclear whether it was the same missile fired in response.

Other footage showed stewards and police stopping Southampton fans from going to the away match, with heartfelt chants of ‘Albion’ in videos shared online.

Photos showed fans of the away team trying to get onto the pitch.

It was a delayed pitch invasion, with the Southampton side initially congratulating each other after managers Russell Martin and Carlos Corberan shook hands.

Smallbone was all smiles as he made his way from the substitutes bench to the pitch before the first group of fans took to the pitch.

More and more began to enter the field of play, with supporters holding flags aloft and a flare also visible on the field.
