Lily-Rose Depp admits she would ‘steer clear of The Weeknd’ on set of The Idol if he was about to do method acting, but insists ‘no one lost their mind’
Lily-Rose Depp has admitted that she would sometimes “steer clear of The Weeknd” on the set of The Idol.
The actress, 24, noted how she stayed away from her co-star, 33, when he bordered on method acting, but insisted that: ‘no one lost their mind.’
HBO drama The Idol, which has been panned by critics for its sexual content, follows Lily-Rose as a derailed pop star named Jocelyn, trying to regain her status as the “biggest and sexiest pop star in America.”
She comes into contact with nightclub promoter and cult leader Tedros, played by The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye.
As the controversial series prepares to debut on June 4, Lily-Rose has spoken out about the filming process and the atmosphere on set.

Lily-Rose confessed Weekly entertainment: ‘I don’t think anyone followed the full method – nobody went crazy.
“Well, sometimes if Abel got — I don’t want to reveal too much about where Abel’s character goes, but sometimes if he were in full Tedros mode I’d steer clear of him, I’d say, ” “He’s in his zone now.”
However, Lily-Rose praised the atmosphere, saying, “For something that naturally explores dark themes and has some pretty heavy emotional moments and stuff, the atmosphere on set was pretty light-hearted.”
It comes after director and co-creator Sam Levinson addressed the show’s controversies at a Cannes press conference.
“We live in a very sexualized world,” he said, “especially in the United States, and I think the influence of pornography is very strong in terms of the psyche of, I think, young people in the United States.
“We see this in pop music and how it reflects the underbelly of the internet. I think it’s very true to what almost every pop star is doing these days.”
Lily-Rose said she was involved in creating all aspects of her character Joselyn, including the amount of on-screen nudity.

“I think the character’s occasional nudity physically mirrors the nudity that we see in her emotionally and that’s something that I felt was really important to the character.”
In an interview with Entertainment tonightthe actress said she was inspired by Sharon Stone, along with screen sirens Lauren Bacall and Gene Tierney.
Meanwhile, The Weekend wanted to tackle its home turf, explaining, “I initially wanted to take a dark, twisted fairytale with the music industry and everything I know about it, and amplify it.”
“We really wanted to focus on ‘can we create our own pop star? Can we create someone who’s trying to find themselves?'”
