Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd form a bond in the ‘gutters’ in the new trailer for The Idol

A new trailer for the upcoming drama series The Idol was released on HBO’s official YouTube channel on Sunday.

In the clip, much of the show’s cast was introduced, and the program’s star, Lily-Rose Depp, was seen while attempting to advance her career as a musical artist.

The project, which stars and was executive produced and co-created by The Weeknd, is currently scheduled to premiere later this year.

The trailer begins with a text graphic introducing the show as having been conceptualized in ‘the gutters of Hollywood.’

An unidentified character then answers a phone call and simply states: ‘Hello, angel.’ 

Depp, who portrays Jocelyn, is then shown while making her way through a record company’s office before heading to a mansion for a workout session.

She later begins seeing The Weeknd, who takes her to a club and protects her from a swarm of fans.

Much of the show’s principal cast members are then introduced by name before Jocelyn steps into a sauna with a character played by Jennie Ruby Jane.

While smoking a cigarette, Depp’s character asks about the name of a club, and her friend ominously smiles.

They then head out for a wild night on the town and end up at a venue where Jocelyn and The Weeknd’s character lock eyes.

The trailer ends with a vintage car heading into a driveway as the show’s title card is shown. 

Development on the series was revealed to the public last June, when it was announced that The Weeknd and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson had been working on the project.

The program was officially given a series order last November, and it experienced a creative overhaul this past April.

In addition to the show’s stars, principal cast members include Dan Levy, Suzanna Son and Eli Roth, among numerous others.

Anne Heche, who tragically passed away after sustaining injuries in a car accident earlier this month, will also be featured in the program.

Physical production on the forthcoming project kicked off in Los Angeles last November.

After the announcement about the creative overhaul was made, it was revealed that the show would undergo a significant amount of reshoots, which concluded last month.

The Idol is expected to premiere on HBO at an unspecified date later this year.
