Lily Allen reveals she’s ‘not in a great place mentally’ and has stopped EATING as she admits to needing therapy after relocating to New York with her children

Lily Allen has revealed she is ‘not in a great place mentally’ and has stopped eating.

The singer, 39, has entered therapy to cope after moving to New York with her children Ethel Mary, 13, and Marnie Rose, 11, and husband David Harbour.

Speaking on her podcast Miss me?which she organizes with her best friend Miquita Oliver, Lily made a candid confession about her mental health.

The Smile hitmaker opened up about how this has affected her eating, with the star admitting she hasn’t eaten and has never felt hungry.

“I’ve been going through a tough time these past few months and my eating has become a problem,” Lily said.

“My therapist and I are talking about it and she says, ‘How long has this been going on?’ And I said, “Well, about three years actually.” And she says, “Okay, why didn’t you say it before?”

“And it’s not because I’m lying about it. It’s just because it doesn’t seem to be at the top of the list of important things I need to talk about, but clearly it is.’

Lily added: ‘I’m not really good at talking about the bigger picture. That’s also something with my ADHD that I don’t connect.

‘And besides, my body and my brain are two very different things to me. I know a lot of people feel like these two things are very connected, but for me it’s very different. I spend a lot of time in my head, and not much time thinking about my body.

‘I’m not doing well mentally at the moment and I’m not eating. I’m not hungry. I’m obviously hungry, but my body and brain are so separated that my body… the messages of hunger don’t go through my body to my brain.

‘I don’t avoid food, I just don’t think about it because I’m so stuck in my head. My body is a few steps behind me.”

Last year, Lily opened up about the subject, claiming that she often forgets to eat – and struggles to eat meals that aren’t ‘ordered and made for me’.

She said she loves food, but her stomach can “go long distances without eating” because she is distracted by caring for her two daughters.

Lily also revealed that she is not a big fan of fast food as she has an ‘anti-capitalist way of thinking about food’.

In 2021, Lily was forced to defend herself against trolls who commented on her weight loss and accused her of looking ‘too skinny’ after she shared a video clip of an appearance on The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan.

“You’ve never seen me completely sober for two years, not smoking and exercising every day,” she told one critic.

Replying to another, she wrote: ‘Seriously, where are you getting off? You know NOTHING about me or my lifestyle. How dare you.’

In March this year, Lily revealed why she made the huge decision to disrupt her two young daughters’ lives and move to America.

In her podcast on BBC Sounds, Lily and her friend Miquita Oliver discussed the recent awards shows and observed how open they were about their emotions in Americans compared to ‘stush’ Brits.

Lily says: ‘One of the reasons I moved here is because I feel it is a much more encouraging environment in which my children can thrive.

‘An example of this is when I decided to do a play, even though I had never acted before and certainly had no experience in the theatre.

‘When I told the Americans about it, they said, “Oh my God, that’s so exciting! You’re going to learn so much, you’re going to kill it!”

‘And when I told English people about it, they said, “A play? Have you ever done that before? Aren’t you afraid?” Culturally we’re just very different.’
