The black comedy “examines the artist’s role in society and questions the price we pay for freedom of expression,” according to a synopsis on the play’s website.
Speaking of The Pillowman’s discussions of censorship, Lily said the piece raises many questions about free speech and the internet.
She said, “There’s a little bit of violence in it. She’s an artist and a writer and that’s something I relate to. She certainly pushes boundaries. There was a lot I could draw from.
Earlier this month, Lily revealed she lost her virginity when she was twelve and that her father Keith Allen called the police when he found out.
The mother-of-two, who has been married to Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 48, since 2020, was on holiday with her father, 69, and younger brother Alfie, now 36, when it happened.
She told Alan Carr, 47, on his Life’s A Beach podcast about how her father thought she was missing at the time.
Lily said, “I actually went missing. I lost my virginity to a man named Fernando in Brazil. When I was about 12, no, I’m not kidding. Never spoke to him again.
“They thought I was really missing. I went to his hotel room, was on vacation with my father and brother, and of course never came back to my room.’
Adding that she “slept in the next day,” Lily said, “I woke up and there were police all over the hotel.
She said, “They were literally combing the beach and had T-shirts (asking, ‘Is this what she was wearing?’) I didn’t have the heart to say, ‘No, I just lost my virginity.’
“It was all a bit traumatic and I didn’t have sex for a while.”
Sex with a child 12 or younger is called “statutory rape.” This means that children of this age can never give consent and so sex is always a crime. It is unknown how old the man was.
