Everton are closing in on a double transfer swoop for Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gana Gueye ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.

The Merseyside club have agreed a fee with Onana’s current side Lille, with the French team sanctioning the 20-year-old’s move, according to Sky Sports.

The midfielder is now in Liverpool for a medical but it is unlikely he will be available to play Chelsea in their opening game of the new season on Saturday.

Onana would have had to have been registered by 12pm on Friday in order for him to feature but no news has come out of the Everton camp.

Former Everton boss David Moyes will miss out on Onana’s signature after the Belgian failed to agree personal terms with West Ham despite the two clubs agreeing a £33.5million transfer fee.

Lille will make a substantial profit on the player they signed for around £5.5million last summer as Onana becomes the latest player of Frank Lampard’s merseyside revolution.

Former Everton midfielder Gueye is also set to swap France for England this summer with the Blues keen to bring the player back to Goodison Park from PSG.

The midfielder wants to leave Paris this summer with talks between the two club’s now at an advanced stage.

Gueye left Everton for PSG in 2019 after making 108 appearances during three seasons on Merseyside.

The 32-year-old however struggled to replicate the form that earned him the move to the Champions League outfit and failed to impress despite making over 100 appearances for the star-studded side.

Frank Lampard has made just two permanent signings in James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil as he attempts to build a side capable of rising up the league table following last season’s relegation survival.

The club have lost star striker Richarlison who has moved to Spurs and are without Dominic Calvert-Lewin for their opening match of the season due to injury.
