Lil Wayne says he can’t be replaced by artificial intelligence because his charisma is inimitable: ‘Not me, because I’m awesome’
Lil Wayne shot down the possibility of being replaced by artificial intelligence during an interview with Billboard which was released on Wednesday.
During the interview, which was held to commemorate hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, the 40-year-old rapper indicated that he does not expect to be replaced by AI anytime soon.
The artist, who recently spoke about forgetting his songs due to his poor memory, started by stating that an acquaintance first came up with the idea of replicating his voice for the future.
“Someone asked me about that recently. And they tried to tell me that AI could make a voice that sounds just like me. But it’s not me because I’m awesome,” he said.
Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., also expressed doubts about the musical talent of artificial intelligence.

“I’m like, is this AI thing going to be great too? Because I’m naturally, organically awesome. I am one of a kind,” he said.
The Right Above It rapper then commented, “Actually, I’d like to see that thing try to duplicate this motherfucker.”
Lil Wayne went on to talk about whether the rise of artificial intelligence had affected the relevance of mixtapes.
“The terminology or definition has changed, that’s all. Mixtapes can now mean an album mix or whatever. But when it comes to Lil Wayne, everyone knows how I approach mixtapes. So my mixtapes will never change,” he said.
The rapper also discussed what he saw as the potential future of hip-hop as an art form.
“What I see now is the art and the ultimate artist who can do anything… I believe that’s where the genre is headed: artists who can do anything – from singing to tapping into different emotions,” he said.
Lil Wayne’s most recently released album, titled Funeral, debuted in January 2020.
Consisting of 24 tracks, the record met with immediate commercial success, peaking at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Funeral was also generally well received by critics, and the album currently holds a score of 62 at Metacritical.
Lil Wayne released a collaborative mixtape with Rich The Kid in October 2021 titled Trust Fund Babies.
The artist recently released his first greatest hits album titled I Am Music last March.
The record peaked at number 25 on the US Billboard 200 and rose to number 9 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
