Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth developer claims fans will be ‘surprised’ by what they’re working on next

Sega’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, developer of the Like a dragon / Yakuza franchise, has given a little glimpse into what the company is currently working on.

As reported by VGCThe developer recently held the ‘Essence of Fandom’ panel at Anime Expo in Los Angeles. Fans who attended have since said that they will be “surprised” by what RGG Studio has in store for its next title during the panel.

“We can’t tell you what kind of game it is, but I’ll tell you… you’ll be surprised,” reads the quote as posted by TheYakuzaGuy on X / Twitter.

With a little analysis, we can try to figure out what Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s next game could be. Like a dragon: infinite wealth launched earlier this year, meaning the next main game in the series is likely a long way off. It’s perhaps more likely that the next game will be a spin-off or side story, as we saw last year with Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, which takes the story of main character Kazuma Kiryu between the events of Yakuza 6: The Song of Life And Yakuza: Like a dragon.

RGG also handles development duties for other Sega properties, and has also worked on Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble And Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown. However, since the panel was strictly related to the Like a dragon series, it is very likely that the studio’s next game will fall within that franchise.

With that in mind, we could see a spin-off game starring one of the series’ popular supporting characters, or possibly a third game in the series. Judgement series set in the same continuity as Like a dragon. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for more details, as RGG Studio is known for its relatively fast and efficient development schedule.
