An adventurous couple could have the opportunity of a lifetime managing a 150-year-old lighthouse turned bed-and-breakfast on an island in the San Francisco Bay.

East Brother Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast is seeking two new innkeepers to replace their current managers, Stephanie and Bryan Wesolek, in April. The Wesoleks had also previously been innkeepers in 2014.

Every two years, the lighthouse changes its innkeeper, whose job it is to maintain the bed and breakfast and drive guests to and from the island.

The beautiful property sits on a one-acre island in the San Francisco Bay, near the tip of Point San Pablo.

The lighthouse has been an active lighthouse since 1873, and in 1979, it was restored and transformed into a cozy five-room inn to help raise funds for lighthouse operations.

To be considered for maintenance work on the impressive lighthouse, applicants must apply as a couple and one of them must have a valid US Coast Guard Captain’s License. Applicants with children and pets will not be considered.

In addition to preparing and serving breakfast and dinner, the couple would need to be able to handle housekeeping and transport guests for the roughly 10-minute drive to the mainland.

The inn is open to guests four days a week, Thursday through Sunday nights, while the island itself can be reserved for day use or to host special events.

The couple that gets the jobs would have to arrive on the island in mid-April, when they would receive two weeks of training.

The couple’s room and board at the lighthouse would be covered by the nonprofit organization.

The couple will also receive a combined salary of $140,000, plus $10,000 for insurance and four weeks vacation, Richmond Mayor Tom Butt said.

Although living in a lighthouse may sound like a dream come true, Butt says the two years will be filled with hard work.
