Donald Trump has a lead over Kamala Harris, according to a national poll released over the weekend ahead of Tuesday night’s important TV debate.
The results of the New York Times/Siena poll, which showed Trump ahead of the vice president by one point, sparked outrage from pundits and critics, who called it “fake” and insisted the poll was flawed.
A poll of 1,695 registered voters shows the candidates tied in the seven decisive states.
It showed that the honeymoon Harris has had since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race is over.

Liberals have collapsed after Donald Trump edged out Kamala Harris in the first major poll since last month’s Democratic National Convention.
The narrow 1-point lead is within the margin of error of the New York Times/Siena College polls, but the fact that the former president has a narrow lead with just two months to go until Election Day is causing an uproar among Democrats.
Some pollsters said it suggests Harris’ “honeymoon” phase is over after just over a month in the race. But some argue it could be a “blip,” while other members of the party are dismissing one of the most reputable and respected major polling authorities.
A self-proclaimed “recovering political pollster” and “election nerd” wrote on X:
We’ll wait for more data to see if this is a dip or the start of a pullback, but NYT/Siena is an excellent gauge.
Another user called the NYT/Siena study “broken, worthless polls.”
Of the 1,695 registered voters surveyed between Sept. 3 and 6, 48 percent say they would vote for Trump, compared to 47 percent for Vice President Harris.
An earlier NYT/Siena poll showed Harris with a 3 percent lead.
Harris-Walz campaign releases ad using Donald Trump’s cabinet members’ words against him
The campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz is releasing an ad promoting a day of debate featuring former Cabinet members of Donald Trump pitted against the former president.
The ad references comments made by Trump Vice President Mike Pence, Defense Secretary Mark Esper, National Security Advisor John Bolton and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.
They have all spoken out against their former boss.
The TV ad comes as Harris and Trump prepare for their first face-off at a debate in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Tuesday.

According to Nate Silver’s prediction, the Republican candidate has a 63.8 percent chance of winning the Electoral College votes, compared to 36 percent for Harris.
He predicts 312 electoral votes for Trump and 226 for Harris, without a doubt.
This figure is a huge increase from the 227 votes Trump secured against Biden in 2020 and even an improvement from his victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016, when he captured the White House with 304 electoral votes.
