Liberals go into meltdown after Trump vows to lock up his political enemies
Liberals have criticized Donald Trump after he vowed to prosecute election fraudsters if he wins in November.
The former president threatened to go after “lawyers, political operatives, donors, illegal voters and corrupt election officials” in a tirade on Truth Social.
This came after he repeated his false claims of election fraud during his failed 2020 campaign.
His comments sparked anger among left-wing commentators, who accused the presidential candidate of “openly promising to lock up his political enemies.”
“I, along with many lawyers and legal scholars, are closely monitoring the sanctity of the 2024 Presidential election because I know better than most of the rampant falsehood and deceit perpetrated by the Democrats during the 2020 Presidential election. It was a disgrace to our Nation!” Trump wrote Saturday.
Donald Trump has promised to prosecute election fraudsters if he wins in November
‘Therefore, the 2024 elections, where votes are only just being cast, will be under the strictest professional supervision. IF I WIN, those who cheated will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. That means long prison sentences, so that this perversion of justice cannot happen again.’
“We cannot allow our country to slide further into a third world country, AND WE WILL NOT!”
“Those guilty of unconscionable behavior will be tracked down, apprehended and prosecuted on a scale that we have unfortunately never seen before in our country.”
One of those who responded to his pledge was Ammar Moussa, spokesman for Kamala Harris.
“Donald Trump told us on day one that he wants to be a dictator. He said he wants to end the Constitution,” he wrote on X.
“Now he’s publicly promising to lock up his political enemies. And now he has the blueprint and the Supreme Court to get him to do what he wants. Take him seriously.”
Prominent Democratic lawyer Marc E. Elias, who recently joined Harris’ team, criticized Trump as “desperate”
Prominent Democratic lawyer Marc E. Elias, who recently joined Harris’ team, also voiced criticism.
“Donald Trump is desperate because he is going to lose this election,” he wrote.
“Let me be clear: We will not be intimidated by Donald Trump. We will not let him suppress the vote. We will not let him undermine the election. We will not let him cheat. We will fight and we will WIN.”
Meanwhile, liberal journalists, including CNN’s Edward-Isaac Dovere and NBC Capitol reporter Garret Haake, expressed concern.
“A few days ago, Trump said he had lost the 2020 race ‘by a hair’. Now he’s spending his Saturday night promising ‘long prison sentences’ for anyone responsible for his loss if he wins again in November,” Dovere said.
“In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Donald Trump escalates his threats to prosecute political opponents — now promising “lengthy prison sentences” for anyone who “cheats” in the 2020 or 2024 elections,” Haake wrote on X.
Ammar Moussa warned that Trump’s threats should be taken “seriously” and accused him of aiming to become a dictator
Trump is currently a suspect in two criminal cases alleging election interference, which he denies.
He is accused of pressuring Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to try to drum up additional votes to overturn the election results in the state.
He is also accused of being involved in a plot to send false electors to the Capitol so he could fraudulently become the winner of several states, and of pressuring his Vice President Mike Pence to accept them instead of the electors certified by each state.
