Liberal outrage as iconic NYC landmark sparkles red to celebrate Donald Trump’s victory in North Carolina

The Empire State Building glowed red late Tuesday night for Donald Trump as he secured victory in crucial swing states North Carolina and Georgia.

From 11:22 p.m. to 11:27 p.m., the top of the iconic New York City building glowed red for the first time of the evening, commemorating Trump’s victory.

“We will be sparkling red for the next five minutes,” the tourist hotspot’s official X account said.

The decision sparked outrage as devastated blue voters in New York said the building “celebrated the potential end of democracy.”

“Celebrating the potential end of democracy is pretty wild for New York,” said one critic.

But the official X account made it clear that a decision had been made in advance to highlight blue or red for the winner of each swing state.

“As a reminder, we will be beaming for all Associated Press battlefield calls,” a spokesperson said.

Besides North Carolina, the other six battleground states are Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

These seven states together have 93 electoral college votes, making them crucial for both campaigns.

Within minutes of the Empire State rising, critics began condemning the decision online.

“Wow, now I even hate the Empire State Building,” one person wrote.

“What’s the matter with you?” another added.

Another argued that he “didn’t win NY so this shouldn’t be relevant.”

“This doesn’t look cute on you,” another heartbroken voter wrote.

North Carolina was the first swing state to be declared on Tuesday evening, with 92 percent of the votes counted and Trump leading with 50.8 percent of the vote.

Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania are all in the red, while Georgia is now also being asked for Trump.

In Nevada it is too early to predict at all.

North Carolina was a key target for both campaigns and was the scene of frenzied campaigning, with Trump dropping out there in the final three days of the race.

And it caused ‘silence’ among Team Harris as their hopes now rest on securing victories in some exciting matches.

A Democratic presidential candidate has not won in North Carolina since Barack Obama in 2008. Trump has now won in three consecutive elections.

More than 4.2 million North Carolina residents voted early before Election Day, breaking 2020’s record turnout.

Some western counties hit by Hurricane Helene saw higher turnout than the rest of the state as election officials ensured victims could cast their ballots.

Trump’s victory came despite an exit poll showing that only 43 percent of North Carolina voters had a favorable view of him, while 48 said the same of Harris.
