Libbi Gorr Reveals How She Rebuilt Her Career – Nearly Twenty Years After The Infamous Chopper Read Interview That Got Her Canceled

Veteran radio presenter Lisbeth ‘Libbi’ Gorr has revealed how hard she has worked to rebuild her career, 25 years after her shock interview with Chopper Read left her cancelled.

The comedian, 58, appeared on Australian Story on Monday and discussed how her career took a major hit in 1998 after she conducted an infamous interview with convicted criminal Mark ‘Chopper’ Read.

‘After that episode, television didn’t want me anymore. I felt like I was canceled before it was invented,” she began.

‘But I still believe in risks. If you don’t take them, nothing will change.’

Libbi then said she took some risks that paid off successfully, leading to her scoring a gig as a radio show host on the digital channel Disrupt Radio, years after people had written her off.

‘How lucky am I at 58 that I have the opportunity to start over, to have the freedom to experiment again?’

In June it was announced that Gorr is returning to the airwaves two years after leaving ABC Radio Melbourne for personal reasons.

She said Stellar magazine that listeners can expect an engaging talkback show in which she will interview world-famous stars.

Libbi left her ABC Radio gig at the end of 2021, after ten years in the role, after tragically losing her older brother Jon in an accident and having to spend time with family.

She revealed that it was thanks to the help of her creative agency Thinkerbell that she managed to ‘rebrand’ her image before returning to the air.

Libbi revealed listeners can expect plenty of informative interviews, but admitted she’s done playing her raunchy ’90s alter ego Ellie McFeast, following an infamous interview on her ABC talk show McFeast Live with a drunken Mark ‘Chopper’ Read in 1998.

He then leered at Gorr’s breasts and tried to grope her in front of the studio audience.

The ABC was inundated with complaints about the shocking segment and later apologized to the public and admitted showing it was ‘an error of judgement’.

In the aftermath, Gorr was unfortunately blamed by many, as people wondered why she ever thought it would be a good idea to book a notorious career criminal for a talk show.
