Liam Payne’s concerned friends say he is ‘struggling’ with life outside One Direction.

The 30-year-old singer was “rushed to hospital with severe kidney pain” during a trip to Lake Como in Italy with girlfriend Kate Cassidy. The sun reports.

A friend of Liam’s has now told the publication: ‘It doesn’t come as a huge surprise – his lifestyle has been on a downward spiral for some time.

‘Liam had such a hard time in the band because of the heavy workload and being in the spotlight.

‘Before One Direction, he was a regular guy, so living in this bubble felt foreign to him and the restrictions really took their toll.

“His partying since the band split could be a response to this.”

It comes after Liam’s distraught mother fought back tears today as she revealed how the superstar’s family are all ‘worried sick’ over her son’s emergency trip to hospital.

Speaking from her £360,000 three-storey detached home near Wolverhampton, Karen Payne said: ‘We’re all worried about it but we just have to move on. It’s terrible that he’s sitting there at all.

‘He is in Milan and it looks like he will be there for a week. I feel helpless’

The 62-year-old added: ‘All we can really do is sit here and hope for the best. There’s nothing we can do. We feel helpless.

“It’s such a terrible situation and we just hope he’s in the best place possible.”

The singer was rushed to hospital during a romantic holiday with his girlfriend after suffering from agonizing kidney pain.

Liam, 30, fell ill during a trip to Lake Como in Italy with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, The Sun reports.

He announced last month that he was canceling a tour of South America due to a “serious kidney infection” that previously left him in hospital.

Insiders report that the star was celebrating his one-year anniversary with Kate when he fell ill at their holiday home and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

He is currently in hospital and will remain there for several days.

A source said: ‘Liam is in a bad way but he is in the best place he can be and finally the doctors will be able to get to the bottom of what is going on.

‘Of course he’s sad that his and Kate’s trip to Lake Como was ruined, but at least she was there to help him when he got sick.

“Doctors have warned him not to expect to be signed off from returning home for at least another six days.

“They want to do all the testing they can to fully understand the problem, but they now suspect there has been an underlying problem for some time and it is getting worse.”

Representatives for Liam have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Last month, Liam shared the heartbreaking news that he was canceling his upcoming tour after being ordered by doctors to ‘rest and recover’.

Liam added a caption to the post: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that we have no choice but to postpone my upcoming tour of South America.

‘I have been in hospital for the past week with a serious kidney infection, something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, and the doctors say I now need to rest and recover.

“I was beyond excited to come play for you guys. To everyone who bought tickets, I’m so sorry.

‘We are working to reschedule the tour as soon as possible, but for now we will be refunding tickets – so keep an eye out for updates from your point of purchase.

“Thank you as always for the love and support, and I look forward to seeing you again soon.”

Liam shared a video to announce the news, adding: ‘This is really the breaking news I want to tell you but actually I’ve been a bit unwell lately.

‘I ended up in hospital with a serious kidney infection. We’ve started rehearsing and I’ve been told that this really isn’t the right time to be on the road while I recover from this.

“I have the best people around me right now trying to help me recover, but yes, we will have to reschedule the tour.”

In July, the former One Direction star opened up about his mental health, revealing that doctors diagnosed him with “a few conditions” after he spent some time in a wellness clinic in the US last year after hitting “rock bottom.”

The singer shared a candid Instagram Stories post saying he was having a rough day and that family and friends could see he was still struggling.

Liam described “manic” moments in his life and his struggle to stay sober during “super low” moments.

In the clip, he admitted that he filmed the video several times before it was deleted, before finally deciding it was the right time to share his story with fans.

Saying, “So I mean, I’ve filmed and deleted a bunch of theses over time, but I don’t know if this is the right time.”

“I know I said in my last video that I had been diagnosed with a number of conditions and not to go into too much detail, but one of them is, there’s a lot of manic things in my life that you guys have seen,” .

He continued, “But the other side of it is and that feels like when I would lose my sobriety in these moments that were super low and that’s how I felt today.”

“And it isolates the two things and looks at them separately and like now I know what they are.”

Before I add, “Luckily I have some great people around me who care for me, but I’m sure they can also tell that I’m ‘not really here'”

He captioned the slip: “I’ve filmed the same video about 20 times at different times this year and was too scared to finish it by talking myself out of it.”

‘I’m going to see how lucky I am to be in the position I’m in… and I want to give all of you who are struggling the gift I’ve been given by sharing some of the things I learned from specialists while I was away ‘.

‘The first thing I did every day was check in and it’s important not to bottle up your feelings. Feeling is one of the great gifts we had and I blocked things out for so long that I felt sick and lashed out… notice it, let it happen and let it pass.”

Liam said he hit rock bottom after appearing on Logan Paul’s podcast in June 2022, and apologized for taking out his anger on everyone else.

He shared a video on his YouTube on Saturday titled ‘I’m Back…’ in which he opened up about seeking professional help.

Liam thanked his six-year-old son Bear and his ex-girlfriend and Bear’s mother Cheryl for supporting his decision to get better.

He added that his former bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik had “stayed with me” and “came to my rescue.”
