Police ‘plan to find whoever supplied Liam Payne with drugs if it is confirmed he had used narcotics before falling to his death’

Police in Argentina are reportedly planning to investigate who supplied Liam Payne with drugs if tests reveal narcotics were found in his hotel room before his crash.

The former One Direction star, 31, plunged 40 feet into the courtyard of the Casa Sur Hotel in Argentina from the third floor of his hotel room on Wednesday afternoon.

Following the tragic news of his death, Argentine media published photos showing the inside of the luxury suite the singer had checked into earlier this week.

After the footage was shared, La Nacion reported that police would investigate who supplied Liam with banned substances if it is proven they were in his room.

Early this morning, authorities confirmed that two emergency calls had been made from the Buenos Aires hotel, with officers informed of “a guest who is into drugs and alcohol.”

It comes as:

Wolverhampton-born Payne had reportedly been behaving erratically and had to be escorted back to his hotel room before the horrific incident took place.

One of Liam Payne’s last selfies in Buenos Aires was captioned: ‘Beautiful day in Argentina’

The hotel receptionist stated on the first call: ‘We have a guest who is crazy on drugs and destroys everything in his room. Someone has to come.’

When the line went dead, he called back and said, “I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger. The room has a balcony and we are afraid he will do something.’

The Familiar singer allegedly ‘behaved erratically in the hotel lobby and broke his laptop’ before he had to be ‘carried back to his room’.

Seconds later, the employee, who identified himself as Esteban, added, “Just send an ambulance, only an ambulance.”

Workers had heard a loud noise in the hotel courtyard before the singer’s body was discovered just after 5pm local time.

Paramedics rushed to the scene where Payne was discovered with ‘very serious injuries’ leaving ‘no possibility of resuscitation’.

Police confirmed his death and officers said: ‘Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo.’

It is believed that the singer’s body was taken to a local mortuary. The Foreign Office also acknowledged that it is in contact with Argentine officials “over reports of the death of a British man,” but declined to comment on his identity.

Shocked fans gathered outside the hotel after police cordoned it off with forensic examiners entering and leaving the hotel in white hazmat suits and blue gloves.

They lit candles and decorated the roadside with flowers at an impromptu vigil as they paid tribute to the beloved music star.

Police in Argentina had received a call from a hotel employee urgently requesting help with a drunken guest, according to audio material on the case obtained from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Security.

The worker said, “If he’s conscious, he’ll destroy the whole room and we need you to send someone.”

Emergency Medical Services Director Alberto Crescenti said Payne “suffered very serious injuries after falling from a third floor into a courtyard.”

“We verified his identity using the passport he had,” he added.

Mr Crescenti told Argentina’s Clarin newspaper that “the team saw that he apparently had a fracture at the base of the skull.”

He said Payne had fallen about 45 feet and suffered “serious injuries incompatible with life.”

He said: ‘At 5.04pm local time the alarm was raised due to a person lying on an internal patio of Casa Sur. An ambulance arrived at 5.11pm and the man was pronounced dead.

‘Afterwards we found out that he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained as a result of the fall proved fatal. There was no way to resuscitate him.”

Payne had arrived in Argentina earlier this month to attend his ex-bandmate Niall Horan’s concert.

In the star’s latest Snapchat post, he happily posed with his partner Kate Cassidy as they looked in the mirror – a photo originally taken last August.

Payne had previously spoken about his alcohol abuse – in July 2023, he revealed he was six months sober after spending around 100 days in rehab.

“Up until that point, I was in bad shape,” he said in a YouTube video.

‘I was looking at this beautiful symphony, I was having a drink and I thought, “You know what, this doesn’t serve me at all, I don’t really need this right now.” It’s the first time I’ve ever put down a drink and said to someone else, “Finish this, I don’t need this right now.” And I haven’t picked one up since, which is almost six months ago, and I’m excited about that,” he added.

Payne rose to fame at the age of 16 after forming boy band One Direction on The X Factor in 2010 alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.
