Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy had left the singer in Argentina to return to the US just two days before his death.
The 31-year-old singer died on Wednesday after falling from his room at the Casa Sur Palmero Hotel in Buenos Aires.
On Monday, Kate, 37, shared a video on TikTok revealing she was flying back to her home in Florida after spending two weeks with Liam in Argentina.
She added that she had originally planned to stay in Argentina for “five days,” and that she was “so ready to go.”
“I was like, I gotta go home,” she said in the video, which documented her flight back to the US.

Kate and Liam originally flew to Buenos Aires to attend his former bandmate Niall Horan’s concert on October 4, and he stayed in the country after his girlfriend flew home.
Liam’s latest Snapchat post showed him happily posing with his bikini-clad partner Kate Cassidy as they looked in the mirror – with the throwback photo Kate previously shared to mark his 30th birthday last year.
Further reports from the final moments of the star’s life revealed him enjoying a late breakfast in his hotel room, where he revealed the pair ‘woke up at 1pm every day’ and had chosen Forrest Gump as their Halloween costume.
He filmed himself at the breakfast table with Kate, joking about his partner leaving her hat on the table.
Another tragic selfie was captioned: “Beautiful day in Argentina” before the star shared a photo from his hotel and wrote: “Glad I had some time,” followed by a heart emoji.
He shared another photo with Kate with the caption: “Quality time.”
TMZ reports that despite Liam and Kate flying to South America together, she returned home on October 14 while the singer reportedly checked into Casa Sur alone.
Emergency services are believed to be present outside the hotel, where a red tent has been set up on site. The investigation into the singer’s death is still ongoing.

City ambulance spokesman Alberto Crescenti said he fell about 40 meters and suffered “serious injuries incompatible with life.”
He said: ‘At 5.04pm local time the alarm was raised due to a person lying on an internal patio of Casa Sur.
‘At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was pronounced dead.
‘Afterwards we found out that he had been a famous singer. Unfortunately, the injuries he sustained as a result of the fall proved fatal. There was no way to resuscitate him.”
Kate and Liam first started dating in October 2022 and made their red carpet debut at the Fashion Awards later that year.
However, in May 2023, the couple sparked split rumors, with a source telling US Weekly: ‘Liam and Kate have split.’
The pair then put an end to the split rumors by enjoying a date in London in June 2023, and later that year she supported him when he was rushed to hospital with a ‘severe kidney infection’.
Liam began his quest for fame when he first auditioned for the X Factor in 2008.
At just 14 years old, Liam impressed the judges with his own version of Frank Sinatra’s Fly Me To The Moon, but was later eliminated from the show.
However, Payne gave his singing career another chance by auditioning for the competition again in 2010, where he quickly rose to fame as part of One Direction.
He and his former bandmates Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were brought together by Simon Cowell and former judge Nicole Scherzinger who saw their potential as a group.
After just a few weeks of getting to know each other and rehearsing non-stop, the group impressed Simon at their audition at Judge’s Houses and sailed through to the live shows.
The pop Svengali later admitted to Rolling Stone that it took him “about a millionth of a second” to discover the group’s global potential.
The fan response was also immediate, with 1D hysteria quickly overshadowing the show. Despite the adulation, the band eventually finished in third place on the X Factor, but shortly afterwards Cowell sealed their fate by signing the five-piece to a £2 million Syco contract.
Eager to capitalize on the boys’ already dedicated fan base, Cowell quickly began recording the band’s debut album in January 2011.
