Liam Hemsworth has announced that he will replace Henry Cavill in his lead role as Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy drama The Witcher ahead of the series’ fourth season.

In a new Instagram post, the Australian heartthrob, 32, revealed that he was “over the moon at the opportunity to” play the lead character of the TV show’s monster hunter.

“I am honored that he is giving me the reins and allowing me to pick up the swords of the White Wolf for the next chapter of his adventure,” added the Hunger Games actor.

He concluded: ‘Henry, I have been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m really excited to enter the world of The Witcher.”

Cavill also took to social media to share some news “from The Continent” about the end of his time on the program.

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia is filled with monsters as well as adventures, and alas, I’ll be laying down my locket and my swords for Season 4,” he began.

The Man of Steel actor went on to explain that he is passing the torch to Hemsworth, who will “take on the mantle of the White Wolf.”

“As with the greatest literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time I’ve spent embodying Geralt and the enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced man,” Cavill concluded. “Liam, good lord, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, love to dive in and see what you can find.”
