LG’s latest super cool wireless OLED TV is launching now – expect a US and UK release soon
One of the coolest OLED TVs has just launched, and you can expect US and UK announcements soon. The TV is the LG M4, and it’s essentially an LG G4 with some very clever wireless connectivity – you still need to plug it into a power outlet, but everything else happens without any wires.
That’s because LG has taken the connectivity of the TV and separated it out, much like it did with last year’s LG M3 series. All connections are made to the Zero Connect Box, a rather chunky-looking thing that resembles a more boxy Xbox Series X. This then transmits to the TV over the 60GHz wireless band, which is relatively empty compared to the much busier highways of the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands used for most Wi-Fi devices.
LG believes that convenience should not come at the expense of quality. The LG M4 promises a stable connection with 30Gbps bandwidth at distances of up to 10 meters, without any delay and without any impact on the picture quality compared to the best OLED TVs, even at 4K HDR at 144Hz.
LG M4 Wireless OLED TV: Key Specs and Prices
The LG M4 is built around the same second-generation MLA OLED Evo panel as the G4, with one exception: the 97-inch model: MLA isn’t yet available in that size. That means the 97-inch model will be limited to 4K at 120Hz, while the other models, which come in 65-inch, 77-inch, and 83-inch models, will output 4K at 144Hz.
The processor here is LG’s new Alpha 11 (which means it Also supports wireless lossless Dolby Atmos for compatible LG soundbars) and the operating system is LG’s own webOS 24.
The M4 is currently only offered in Europe, but LG says the device will begin rolling out “in key markets globally” starting this week (via FlatpanelsHD); the current prices are in euros and are:
- LG M4 65 inch: €5,000
- LG M4 77 inch: €7,300
- LG M4 83 inch: €9,700
- LG M4 97 inch: €34,700
As a rough guide, this means the cheapest 65-inch model will cost around £4,280 / $5,365 and the most expensive will cost £29,400 / $37,240. That’s considerably more expensive than the wired LG G4; the 65-inch version has an RRP of £3,299 / $3,299 / AU$5,299.
Normally, we’d expect even the best TVs to see a significant price drop shortly after launch. We haven’t seen any dramatic discounts on the current LG M3, however, as there simply isn’t the same level of competition available here as there is on a wired TV, so the LG G4 will likely remain a premium option for a while longer. But for anyone looking for one of the best wall-mounted TVs and a deep enough budget, it could be worth the outlay.
