Lewis Hamilton opens up on his bombshell £40m move from Mercedes to Ferrari as he reflects on a ‘crazy few days’ in first social media post since the stunning deal was announced

Lewis Hamilton says he will ‘fulfill a childhood dream’ by joining Ferrari as he reflects on a ‘crazy few days’ following his shock move.

The seven-time world champion surprised Formula 1 on Thursday by confirming that he will join the most famous sports brand in the world from 2025.

Hamilton has signed a deal worth more than £40 million to complete his career at Ferrari.

In his first social media post since the move was confirmed, Hamilton said he will realize a dream by racing for the Italian manufacturer.

“It was a crazy few days, filled with a whole range of emotions,” Hamilton wrote.

“I feel incredibly lucky, after achieving things with Mercedes that I could only have dreamed of as a child, that I now have the opportunity to fulfill another childhood dream. Driving in Ferrari red.

“Mercedes has played a big role in my life since I was thirteen years old, so this decision was the hardest I have ever had to make.

“I am incredibly proud of everything we have achieved together and I am very grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone I have worked with over the years and of course Toto, for his friendship, guidance and leadership.

“Together we have won titles, broken records and become the most successful driver-team partnership in F1 history. And of course I can’t forget Niki, who was a great supporter and who I still miss every day.

“I must also express my enormous appreciation to the entire Mercedes-Benz board and everyone at the company in Germany and around the world for their support over these 26 years.”

Hamilton also reiterated his previous comments that leaving Mercedes for Ferrari was “one of the most difficult decisions” he has ever had to make.

The 38-year-old reiterated his belief that the ‘time is right’ to take on a new challenge.
