Lewis Capaldi’s ‘very understanding’ girlfriend Ellie MacDowell supported him on tour

Lewis’ girlfriend Ellie MacDowell, 23, was not at his recent Glastonbury appearance, where he fought with Tourette Gilles and subsequently canceled his tour.

While it’s not clear where Ellie was, 28-year-old Lewis has credited the actress for being by his side during previous appearances – calling her “very understanding.”

Ellie, who was first linked to Lewis in November, was there when he toured Ireland in February and traveled all the way to California in April to see him on stage.

A source told MailOnline that the pair are still very much together but would like to keep a low profile and not show their romance on social media.

Lewis broke his silence after his performance at Glastonbury to thank his ‘wonderful’ family and friends, adding that those closest to him have supported him endlessly over the past year as he struggled with crippling anxiety and his tics got worse.

Lewis made rare comments about his relationship in an interview with The record while doing shows in Bristol late last month saying, ‘She’s good. She’s cold. She is very understanding of my situation as I am away a lot. She’s cool.’

The couple were last pictured in early May while enjoying a quiet getaway in West Hollywood.

Just weeks after they were photographed in America, Lewis announced that for his mental and physical health he would be taking a three-week break until his Glastonbury gig so he could spend time with his family.

During his performance at the festival on Saturday, the crowd sang Someone You Love to an emotional Lewis who struggled to finish the set due to his Tourette’s.

In a statement on Tuesday, the singer announced that he will not be touring “for the foreseeable future” because it is “obvious” that he needs to “spend a lot more time getting my mental and physical health in order.”

The decision, which he labeled “the hardest of my life,” reveals the true toll the condition takes on the hitmaker, who has been remarkably open about his past mental health struggles.

While Lewis didn’t specifically refer to Ellie in his statement, he did thank his loved ones for being there for him.

“I know I am incredibly lucky to be able to take some time off when others can’t and I want to thank my wonderful family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who have been so supportive every step of the way. of the way through the good times and even more during the past year when I needed it more than ever,” he wrote.

Ellie studied Dance for Commercial Performance for three years and is now an accomplished professional dancer who will star in ITV drama Archie.

She is trained in Ballet, Commercial Dance, Contemporary Dance, Hip Hop Dance, Jazz Dance, Latin American, Lyrical Dance, Modern Dance, Pas de Deux and Tap.

Lewis, who is known for penning heartbreaking hits like Someone You Love and Wish You The Best, hinted at his mental health struggles last month when he told The Record, “When one thing goes well, the other goes bad. ‘.

Seeing how fans support him at his performances by singing when they watch him struggle, he said, “When you allow yourself to be vulnerable, you allow others to be vulnerable with you.” I’m not too embarrassed about my twitching and I’m a little more comfortable shaking on stage, even if it’s painful.”

The Scot had already taken three weeks off for his performance on the Pyramid Stage over the weekend but admitted on Tuesday it wasn’t enough and he was “still learning to adapt to the impact of my Gilles de la Tourette ‘.

The singer-songwriter got emotional when he started losing his voice during the performance, prompting him to apologize to the audience – who then helped him finish his songs in heartwarming images that quickly went viral.

But after posting on Instagram on Tuesday, Lewis confirmed that he was canceling the planned 24 live dates he had planned for the rest of the year.

He wrote: ‘Hello everyone. First of all I want to thank Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the great messages afterwards. It really means everything,’ he began.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know that I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

‘I used to enjoy every second of these kinds of shows and I had hoped that 3 weeks away would help me. But the truth is that I’m still learning to adapt to the impact of my Gilles de la Tourette and on Saturday it became clear that I need to spend a lot more time getting my mental and physical health in order so that I can keep doing everything I love long ago.’

“I know I am incredibly lucky to be able to take some time out when others can’t and I want to thank my wonderful family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who have been so supportive every step of the way. of the way through the good times and even more during the past year when I have needed it more than ever.”

“I’m so incredibly sorry for everyone who was planning on coming to a show before the end of the year, but I have to feel good to perform at the level you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of, so this was the hardest decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as possible. All my love always, Lewis’.

Lewis had 24 more dates planned for his Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent tour, which ends in Belfast at Boucher Road Playing Fields on September 3.

WHAT IS TOURETTE SYNDROME?

Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by a combination of involuntary sounds and movements called tics.

It usually begins during childhood and continues into adulthood. Tics can be vocal or physical.

In many cases, Tourette’s syndrome runs in families and is often associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome is named after the French physician, Georges Gilles de la Tourette, who first described the syndrome and its symptoms in the 19th century.

There is no cure for Tourette’s syndrome, but treatment can help control symptoms.
