Lewis Capaldi’s sister Danielle hits back at trolls who took aim at their parents after Netflix film

Lewis Capaldi’s sister Danielle has hit back at trolls targeting their parents following the release of the singer’s emotional Netflix documentary.

In the film, How I’m Feeling Now, the 26-year-old musician travels back to his childhood home in Scotland after the success of his first album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, and begins writing his second.

It also explores the singer’s journey with Tourette’s syndrome after doctors picked up on his uncontrollable shoulder twitching.

But after the film’s release on April 5, trolls have targeted Lewis’s parents Mark and Carol, saying they came across as “tough.”

The Somebody You Love hitmaker’s big sister took to TikTok on Tuesday to stop the negative comments directed at their parents, saying the trolls didn’t understand their “Scottish banter.”

Responding to trolls: Lewis Capaldi’s sister Danielle, 30, spoke out against their parents following the release of the singer’s Netflix documentary

Tell it all: Singer Lewis Capaldi, 26, recently released a telling documentary How I’m Feeling Now with Netflix

Danielle, 30, showed she shared her brother’s famously dry wit by posting a photo of them both showing their middle fingers to the camera in a gesture aimed at trolls.

She captioned it: “when reading negative comments about parents.”

Danielle, who is a teacher, said: ‘Lewis’s documentary has received a lot of positive feedback, but unfortunately there will always be people who have to look for problems where they don’t exist.

“If you don’t get any Scottish banter or parents are concerned about their son, don’t comment.”

In response to a comment saying their father came across as “tough,” she added: “We didn’t know at this point that he had Gilles de la Tourette.

“He went through me with MH issues that were nothing like Lewis’s tics. He wanted him to get help.’

Danielle referenced Mark’s blunt comments throughout the documentary.

In one scene, Lewis plays a new song he’s working on for his parents. After he finished, his dad said, “It’s sh***. Is that it?’

Supportive: Lewis’ father Mark expressed concern for his son as he struggled with his Tourette’s symptoms – which some considered harsh

In another clip, Lewis struggles with a shoulder pull and Mark insists he get help, saying, “I thought you were going to do something about it. How do you get rid of it?’

But as Danielle confirmed, the comments were made out of concern for his son – which TikTok viewers quickly picked up on and praised Carol and Mark for being so “down to earth.”

One of them said, “I loved your mom and dad, so supportive of Lewis and everything he does!”

Another commented, “I think your mom and dad were great. great support for a great guy. They don’t clearly understand Scottish banter.

Meanwhile, a third said: ‘I think it’s really great that Lewis comes from a normal down to earth quintessentially Scottish family. that’s the first thing i said when i saw your parents! X’

Lewis suffered uncontrollable tics while performing his song Fade at his very first show at Wembley in 2020.

He was then diagnosed with Gilles de la Tourette after doctors picked up on his uncontrollable shoulder twitching.

Gilles de la Tourette is a neurological disorder that causes you to make involuntary movements and sounds called tics.

The diagnosis provided some peace of mind for the singer because it “made complete sense.”

As for his anxiety, Lewis has been told that with medication, exercise and a change in diet, he could see a drastic improvement.

He thinks he might even have to quit his music career if things get worse for him.

Musician Lewis told The sun: ‘You can probably see it now – I’m shaking a lot for this record. It’s weird because I didn’t do it that much on the first album, but I wasn’t that stressed.

“A lot more is happening in my life now. The biggest of all is undoubtedly the second record pressure. It is caused by stress, anxiety and excitement. Basically, any strong emotion, you’re the bastard.”

The singer rose to fame in 2019 after his hit single Somebody You Loved topped the UK Singles Chart for six weeks – and recently became the UK’s most-streamed song of all time.

He has now reached four number ones and his debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

His second album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent will be released in May, before performing at Glastonbury Festival in the summer.

WHAT IS TOURETTE SYNDROME?

Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by a combination of involuntary sounds and movements called tics.

It usually begins during childhood and continues into adulthood. Tics can be vocal or physical.

In many cases, Tourette’s syndrome runs in families and is often associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome is named after the French physician, Georges Gilles de la Tourette, who first described the syndrome and its symptoms in the 19th century.

There is no cure for Tourette’s syndrome, but treatment can help control symptoms.
