Levi Wright’s mother reveals the major decisions she has to make and shares heartbreaking new details about her son ‘brain injury’ after he drove his toy tractor into raging river

The mother of a three-year-old boy who suffered a brain injury after driving his toy tractor into a river in Utah shared a heartbreaking update on her son’s health.

Levi Wright, son of rodeo star Spencer Wright, was initially declared brain dead after driving his toy tractor into a fast-flowing river in Beaver County on Tuesday.

His mother, Kallie Wright, dove in to save him and rushed to the hospital where doctors restored his heartbeat but warned the Wrights that Levi’s brain was too damaged to survive.

Levi miraculously showed signs of brain function on Friday, but now his mother is warning that the hardest part of their journey is yet to come.

“We are researching the therapies mentioned, talking to those we think can support us and getting as many professional eyes on them as possible,” Kallie said in a Facebook update.

“We just need the prayers. We’re going to need them for years to come, because I’m afraid we haven’t even gotten to the hardest part of this yet.

“Our doctor is nothing short of outstanding and I believe as I do that her heart is invested in him as she has given us the most precious gift of time. Something we almost didn’t have.

“Whether it’s time to see if God gives us a miracle, or whether it’s time for us to explore, learn and process all of this to make the most informed decisions.

“Any decision Levi’s father and I will make will be based on what we, the two people who know him best, think he would want. In all of this, he comes first.”

On Friday, his parents received the devastating news that an MRI showed a poor prognosis for the boy.

‘This is an experience, I pray deep in my soul that you never have to know how I begin to know. This is a roller coaster that you go through unintentionally and blindfolded, you don’t know what is coming. All you have to do is wait and ride out. We’re just taking it day by day,” Kallie said.

‘The term ‘brain injury’ is very broad, there are different degrees and different degrees of severity. No two brain injuries are the same, even if the accident is similar. No two brains recover or heal the same. There is a lot that medical professionals don’t know, but what they tell you is based on legitimate medical literature and history.”

Late Thursday night, Levi woke up, according to his mother, who is at his bedside at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City with her husband, Spencer.

‘LEVI WAKE UP! I’m shocked, we don’t know much but the doctor said it was okay for me to get excited about that and I am! My baby is so cool!’ she said.

“He got a little wild, so we had to calm him down again, but my heart!”

Later on Friday, she clarified that Levi was not yet “fully coherent” or talking.

“He opened his eyes for a while, wiggling purposefully and less like a reflex like before,” Kallie said.

‘We still have a very long and wonderful road ahead of us, full of uncertainties. Spencer and I felt like he knew we were there and could hear us.”

When Levi drove into the river, the person who called 911 frantically told dispatchers that they couldn’t see him under the fast-moving current.

Kallie realized he had snuck away and run to the river, jumping into the current to save him, with her friend saying she was ‘the one who found him, she got him out’.

A massive response from rescue teams from the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office, the Utah Highway Patrol, the Beaver County Search and Rescue team and Beaver firefighters quickly responded to the scene.

Crews performed life-saving efforts before an ambulance took him to Beaver County hospital, and he was later flown by helicopter to Salt Lake City.
