Levi Colwill joins England’s training for Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia after Lewis Dunk’s withdrawal

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has joined Gareth Southgate’s England squad following the withdrawal of Lewis Dunk due to injury.

Colwill trained with the England Under 21s ahead of their European Championships later this month.

The Football Association has confirmed that Colwill has now been called up for senior training at St George’s Park.

Colwill’s call-up to training raises the possibility of the defender being involved in the England squad for their upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The Southgate side are trying to maintain their perfect Euro 2024 qualifying record to date after beating Italy and Ukraine in March.

Colwill will return to the England Under-21 squad next week ahead of this month’s European Championship

England will play against Malta on Friday before hosting North Macedonia at Old Trafford next Monday.

The matches come before the start of the European Under-21 Championship, which starts on June 21 in Romania and Georgia.

England’s opening game of the tournament falls on June 22, when Lee Carsley’s side take on the Czech Republic.

England Under 21 have also been drawn against Germany and Israel in the group stage of the tournament.

Colwill’s call-up to England senior training follows Dunk’s withdrawal from the Three Lions squad through injury, with the Brighton defender suffering a back and rib problem.

Colwill enjoyed a productive loan spell at Brighton alongside Dunk, with the defender making 22 appearances in all competitions as the Seagulls first qualified for Europe.

Brighton are considering an improved offer of around £40m for Colwill, after a £30m offer was rejected by Chelsea.

The Blues are adamant that Colwill will not be leaving the club this summer.

His contract with Chelsea runs until 2025 and includes an appearance-related optional 12 months.
