Farm worker gets caught in machine conveyor belt and dies after horrific injuries: ‘Deeply disturbing’

A talented cricketer is remembered as a beloved local larrikin after his shocking death on a farm in Victoria.
Liam Harrington, 34, died after becoming entangled in a machine conveyor belt on an estate in Lethbridge, a rural town about 30 km north-west of Geelong, on Tuesday morning.
Emergency services including police, fire and paramedics rushed to the scene, but he died of his injuries.
The incident is being investigated by WorkSafe, while Victoria Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
Liam Harrington (pictured) was found dead on Tuesday 21 March at a job site in English Road, Lethbridge.
Tributes have poured in from devastated members of the community, who remember Mr Harrington as the ‘life of the party’.
“The Apollo Bay Football Netball Club is shocked and deeply saddened by the death,” the club wrote on Facebook.
“Liam was a fantastic club man, both on and off the pitch.
“Liam was the linchpin of the party and he knew how to spend precious time with those he loved. Rest in peace Liam. You were loved by so many.’
Others shared messages of support for his family and reminisced about his life.
Such a genuine young man with a big heart! Condolences to Liam’s family and all his many friends who will miss him terribly,” a friend wrote online.
The Gym at Apollo Bay described Harrington as a “local larrikin.”
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of a local larrikin and former gym member Liam Harrington,” it wrote on Facebook.
“Gone way too young.”

His former employer, First National in Golden Plain, said they were shocked by the “deeply distressing” news.
Much loved by the community and will sadly be missed by many.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Harrington family at this sad time.”
East Belmont Cricket Club also paid tribute, naming him the 12th man in the Men’s 4th XI team ahead of the local grand final this weekend.
They are considering wearing black armbands and holding a minute’s silence in Winter Reserve in memory.
A spokesman for WorkSafe said the health and safety regulator would investigate the death – the fifth in Victoria for 2023.
