Lest we forget the Indian soldiers who fought for Britain | Short letters

There has rightly been a lot of discussion lately about reparations for slavery, but there has been little recognition of the Indian Army soldiers who assisted Britain in the Second World War. What a wonderful program Mobeen Azhar has made on this subject for Channel 4, The soldiers who saved Britain (TV tonight, November 2). How scandalous that this is not taught in the curriculum.

Noël Coward was the producer, screenwriter and composer of In Which We Serve (1942), also starring in and directing the film (From Anna Kendrick to Dev Patel – how easy is it for actors to direct themselves?, October 29 ) . To help with the logistics of this, he brought in a young man from the editing room as co-director: David Lean.
