Leonardo DiCaprio and Gigi Hadid DID try to date but sparks ‘were not there’

Leonardo DiCaprio and Gigi Hadid “tried dating some time ago,” but decided they were better off as friends after realizing there were no romantic feelings between them, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Rumors began circulating earlier this month that Gigi, 28, and Leo, 48, were in a ‘no strings attached relationship’, with Us Weekly reporting that the duo had a ‘flowing romance’, but insiders have insisted that – while they did briefly try to date – this is definitely not the case, adding that the actor does not believe in casual affairs.

“They tried to date a while ago to see if there was anything, but there just wasn’t. They’ve been friends for so long, but they don’t have an open relationship with no strings attached,” the insider emphasizes.

“People just need to let this go. That’s not how Leonardo handles relationships.

This makes it sound cheap and it isn’t. When he’s with someone, he’s with them.

He’s enjoying his friendship with Gigi and that’s that.’

Leo and Gigi recently sparked romance rumors when they were having dinner with his parents in London two nights in a row.

However, when asked about the recent outings with his parents, the source responded to the suggestion that going out to dinner together means there is more than friendship between the two.

“It’s just ridiculous that a man and a woman can’t be friends without everyone insisting there’s more to it,” they said.

On June 6, Leo – along with his father George and stepmother Peggy Farrarto – arrived at the China Tang restaurant in London. Gigi arrived separately at the same restaurant. The party dined together but did not sit next to each other.

The next night they were seen together again. After arriving at staggered times at London’s infamous Chiltern Firehouse, Leo and Gigi had dinner with his parents and a few other guests.

The actor – who is used to only dating women under 25 – took a liking to Gigi in the summer of 2022, who is also mother to three-year-old daughter Khai with Zayn Malik.

In September, they were photographed together for the first time in photos obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com.

In the photos, which were taken at a VIP event thrown by Leo’s friends Richie Akiva and Darren Dzienciol in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan’s Casa Cipriani, Leo and Gigi were sensitive to each other.

At one point, Leo leaned forward and put his hands on her shoulders. She was seen reciprocating the gesture by placing her hands on his knees.

After the photos went viral, a source told page six that they are dating, but “taking it easy.”

The source went on to say that the pair were out together, just the two of them, not calling themselves “exclusive” yet.

The person added: “[DiCaprio] is not someone who is in and out of relationships. He doesn’t jump around to hook up. They’re taking it easy.’

Since then, the duo – who are pros at dodging unwanted photographers – have not been seen together at all since their recent dinners in London. However, they have been photographed arriving and/or leaving the same locations at different times.

In November, they both left Casa Cipriani in the Big Apple – where they were first pictured together – at different times. Things seemed to cool down the following month when Leo was photographed partying with a bunch of gorgeous models in Miami, Florida.

In February, a source told the DailyMail.com that Leo was “single” and he wanted to shed his image of only dating models under 25. Gigi just happened to be a perfect fit.

“Leo is very single at the moment and he’s not thrilled with the hype suggesting he’s looking for these very young women,” the DailyMail.com insider. “He’s looking for something more mature in the relationship department.”

“It’s just ridiculous because he can’t go anywhere without being associated with the youngest beautiful woman there,” the source added. “He wants to get rid of this image once and for all and it really bothers him that this continues to haunt him.”

Leo wasn’t seen with stunning Victoria’s Secret model Gigi for another month — until they both attended the same Oscars pre-party and after-party in Los Angeles. Eyewitnesses claim that they looked very much like a couple, but there are no photos of them together.

In May, the A-listers were photographed walking into a party at Zero Bond in NYC. At the time, Entertainment tonight reported that they hang out whenever “their busy schedules allow.”

It seemed over for the two as Leo has been seen with a string of gorgeous models in recent weeks.

Earlier this week, Leo was spotted with another gorgeous 28-year-old model, Neelam Gill. The two had a late dinner together in Paris, accompanied by Leo’s lifelong best friend Tobey Maguire, 47, as well as Tobey’s children — daughter Ruby, 16, and his son, Otis, 14. Leo’s niece, Normandie, 16, was also in attendance.

Neelam sat apart from the Wolf of Wall Street star, with another man sitting between them. After a source told DailyMail.com that the two are just friends, Neelam went to London’s Chiltern Firehouse with Leo and his mother ahead of the mother-son duo’s meal with Gigi.
