Leon Goretzka rules out Bayern Munich’s departure this summer in a blow to Manchester United as the German midfielder insists he ‘loves the club and the city’

  • Leon Goretzka has declared he ‘has no intention of leaving Bayern Munich’
  • The German midfielder was a target for Manchester United this year
  • Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel cannot guarantee Goretzka’s place in the team

Leon Goretzka has ruled out leaving Bayern Munich this summer, despite strong interest from Manchester United in the midfielder.

Earlier, Mail Sport reported on claims the German giants would let 28-year-old Goretzka leave for the right price after five years at the Bavarian club, with Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils at the front of the line to sign him.

But the midfielder has openly declared his love for Bayern Munich in a strong statement to the German media, insisting he is not going anywhere.

Sky Germany asked Goretzka about this summer’s exit rumours, to which the 28-year-old replied: “I have no intention of leaving Bayern. I like the club, I like the city, I like the fans.’

It was thought Bayern would accept a bid of just £34m to let Goretzka leave the Allianz Arena during the transfer window, but it appears the Germany international will stay in Munich.

The German midfielder joined the club in 2018 and has a contract with Bayern until June 2026.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel cannot guarantee Goretzka’s place in the team next season

Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel cannot guarantee Goretzka’s role going forward as the side undergoes a revamp ahead of its first full season on the sidelines.

Tuchel is expected to start with Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer in central midfield, casting doubt on Goretzka’s future despite being signed to the club until June 2026.

Goretzka made 40 appearances for clubs in all competitions last season, but made few appearances in the final weeks of the season.

The 28-year-old has scored 34 goals in 179 appearances for Bayern Munich since joining from Bundesliga rivals Schalke in 2018. In those years he won five Bundesliga titles and the Champions League title in 2020.

Manchester United will have to find another way to strengthen their midfield after Goretzka’s commitment to the German champions.

It was previously thought the Red Devils could bring in the Germany international’s experience to replace Scott McTominay or Fred, both of whom have been linked with exit rumours, but will have to find other affordable options.
