Lenovo will now offer refurbished laptops – and even servers, to help reduce hardware costs
In a move that appears to have both sustainability and customer budgets in mind, Lenovo has unveiled its Lenovo Certified Refurbished program, which will focus on selling refurbished PCs and other hardware.
The initiative aims to tackle electronic waste by extending the life cycles of hardware and devices through cost-efficient and environmentally friendly choices.
Denmark, France, Germany and Britain will be among the first countries to get the new option, but the Hong Kong giant has hinted at a global rollout soon.
Lenovo is tapping into the refurbished market
Lenovo cites its own research that 62% of CIOs find it challenging for their organization to achieve sustainability goals. By offering refurbished devices, Lenovo will not only provide businesses with a more cost-effective way to purchase hardware, but it will also help them achieve their sustainability goals, in line with the circular economy to reduce electronic waste.
Anupam Garg, leader in developing Lenovo Digital Workplace Solutions Offers, expressed excitement about the expansion of Lenovo Certified Refurbished to TruScale DaaS, which it hopes will make sustainable IT more achievable for customers.
A 2023 survey by the company found that three in five CIOs have turned to aaS offerings for their tech stacks. Lenovo says its TruScale DaaS combines cost and waste reduction with efficient management.
Devices for sale through the company’s newly refurbished store will undergo extensive data cleansing, indicating that key components such as storage and memory are being thoroughly wiped rather than replaced.
Among other reassurances, Lenovo will sell its refurbished devices with a minimum three-year warranty coverage.
Ny Breaking asked Lenovo about the size of the savings customers can expect when buying refurbished compared to new, but the company did not immediately respond.
