Lena Dunham has denied using a racist slur while working on the set of Girls in 2012, after Donald Glover joked that she used the ‘N-word extremely liberally’.

Speech: Glover, 39, made the surprising comment about Dunham, 36, as he presented an award to writer-producer Paul Simms at the Writers Guild Awards on Sunday, and the star also referenced the past racism scandal her Community co-star Chevy Chase.
Elsewhere in his speech, Glover took aim at Chase, who had allegedly frequently made racist comments to him during his time on Community from 2009 to 2015, according to the show’s creator, Dan Harmon, in a 2018 interview.
Glover said: “This award is named for Herb Sargent, a writer who worked on Saturday Night Live and came up with the Weekend Update with Chevy Chase.
‘Chevy Chase once called Herb one of the funniest writers working on television. And Chevy Chase once called me… you know, it’s about Paul.

In 2018, Harmon, who was also a writer at Community, claimed that Chase was intimidated by Glover’s talent and would make sarcastic, racially charged comments between takes.

Elsewhere in his speech, Glover took aim at Chevy Chase, who had allegedly made frequent racist comments to him during his time on Community from 2009 to 2015 (represented on the show as Pierce Hawthorne and Troy Barnes).
“I remember apologizing to Donald after a particularly rough night of Chevy non-PC blabbering, and Donald saying, ‘I don’t even care about it.
Glover told the publication that he had seen Chase as an actor who was very unhappy with his fading stardom.
“I just saw Chevy as fight time: a true artist has to be okay with his reign being over,” he said.
