Leicester City are hoping to sign defender Conor Coady from Wolves, despite an initial bid being rejected.

The fee could be around £4.5 million for the 30-year-old who spent last season on loan at Everton and had interest from Nottingham Forest.

The former Wolves skipper left Goodison Park at the end of his season-long stay after the Toffees failed to take up their £4.5 million option of the center back.

Coady made 25 appearances for Everton, scoring two goals and excelling in their 1–0 victory over Bournemouth on the final day as they avoided relegation.

But he hadn’t started any of the previous 13 games when Sean Dyche dropped him to play first Michael Keane and then Yerry Mina.

Enzo Maresca’s recently relegated Foxes are looking to rebuild after falling in the Championship

The England international now returns to a Molineux with former boss Bruno Lage – who sent him on loan – now gone, and Julen Lopetegui at the helm, although a change of manager appears to have brought no change to his position at the club.

But despite an initial bid being rejected, the Foxes are confident of achieving their goal, which would end an eight-year stay with Wolves.

The 30-year-old has previously been highly regarded by Gareth Southgate and England, having been part of the European Championship squad that lost to Italy in the Wembley final.

In total, Coady has been capped 10 times for the Three Lions, scoring one goal in that time, although he has dropped slightly in the pecking order in the two years since the 2021 league.

Coady isn’t the only Premier League star to target the newly relegated side, however, as they look to plot an immediate return to the top under Enzo Maresca.

Leicester are excited about Manchester City goalkeeper Zack Steffen, but he is recovering from surgery on his left knee.

The American international spent the last spell on loan at Middlesbrough, where he kept 10 clean sheets in 46 appearances in the Championship and play-offs.

Reports have also suggested that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Winks, who was loaned out to then Serie A team Sampdoria last season, is of interest to Maresca’s side as the relegated former Premier League champions look to rebuild.

James Maddison looks set to leave King Power Stadium after agreeing personal terms on £170,000 a week deal at Tottenham Hotspur

Although the Foxes are already looking for new recruits, they have already seen star midfielder Youri Tielemans leave for Aston Villa on a free transfer.

They were also able to say goodbye to the in-demand duo of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes.

Maddison in particular looks set to leave the club, with a £170,000-a-week deal at Tottenham believed to have already been agreed.

The Foxes are expected to be well compensated for parting with their talisman, with a fee of around £45 million said to be redeemed.
