Leicester confirm Mateus Tete has SIGNED on a short-term deal until June 2023

Leicester have confirmed the signing of Brazilian winger Mateus Tete on a short-term contract until June 2023.

The Shakhtar Donetsk star, who has been on loan at Ligue 1 club Lyon so far this season, will now join the Foxes for the next six months before his contract with the Ukrainian outfit is reactivated this summer.

If Brendan Rodgers wishes to sign the 22-year-old permanently, the club will have to enter further negotiations with Shakhtar this summer once his contract is renewed.

Tete flew out for a medical on Saturday and should be available for the trip from Leicester to Aston Villa next week.

The Foxes identified the Brazilian winger as a possible answer to their attacking woes as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

The struggling side wanted to add more players to their squad this month after signing Danish left-back Victor Kristiansen for £17m from FC Copenhagen.

The Brazilian winger has been turning heads since producing six goals and three assists in his 17 Ligue 1 appearances this term.

The 22-year-old was on loan at Lyon after his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk was suspended due to the Russian invasion.

Lyon had the option to sign Tete, but chose not to act on the clause.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest are aiming for a wide player and Tete was understood to be on their list, before Leicester snapped the winger.
