Los Angeles Dodgers legend Maury Wills has died aged 89.
“The Los Angeles Dodgers are saddened by the passing of Dodger legend Maury Wills,” a team statement released Tuesday said. “Our thoughts are with Wills’ family, teammates and friends.”
A cause of death has not been announced.
Wills is considered one of the greatest baserunners in baseball history, retiring with 586 steals, which is still good enough for 20th place all-time.
More importantly, the seven-time All-Star shortstop won three World Series with the Dodgers and was named National League MVP in 1962 over legends such as Willie Mays, Frank Robinson and teammates Tommy Davis and Don Drysdale.
