Legendary British actor famed for disturbing the nation with iconic role returns to screens with new terrifying film – but do YOU know who it is?

He is best known for starring in a 1970s cult classic that struck fear into the hearts of the nation.

Moviegoers around the world perfectly transformed into a psychopathic killer and were left terrified by the film and its portrayal.

Since then, he’s taken on a number of villainous roles and has his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame.

Now he takes on a new role as the undead in The Vampyre: Blood & Ink, an adaptation of John William Polidori’s first vampire story.

So have you guessed who it is?

That’s right, it’s Malcolm McDowell.

The 80-year-old English actor is best known for his starring role in the ultra-violent 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, based on the novel by Anthony Burgess.

He played teenage misfit Alex who roamed the streets with his gang of ‘doois’ in search of victims of torture and murder.

Although the film was approved uncut for British cinemas in December 1971, British authorities considered the film’s sexual violence to be extreme.

The following year, during the trial of a 14-year-old boy charged with the manslaughter of a classmate, the prosecutor referred to A Clockwork Orange, suggesting the film had macabre relevance to the case.

In 1973, the late director Stanley Kubrick ordered Warner Bros to withdraw the film from British release.

It was re-released in 1999 after Stanley’s death.

Now Malcolm is set to take on a new terrifying role in the feature film adaptation of the 19th century gothic novel The Vampyre, in which he will star alongside Derek Jacobi. His character has not yet been revealed.

The Vampyre follows Aubrey and Ruthven as two travelers who meet and decide to travel through Europe together.

After Aubrey and Ruthven arrive in Greece, Aubrey falls in love with a woman who is murdered by a vampire, who Aubrey later discovers is Ruthven.

Production on the film will start later this year.

Veteran stage actor Malcolm – born Malcolm John Taylor – played media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Malcolm started out doing small parts for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

His first film was 1968’s What If…, which led to his role as sadist Alex DeLarge in 1971’s A Clockwork Orange.

In the 1970s his career gained momentum with Aces High (1975), Voyage of the Damned (1976), She Fell Among Thieves (1978) and Caligula (1979).

His first major Hollywood film was 1979’s Time After Time.
