The legendary ’90s EastEnders icon looks strikingly different as she hits the red carpet…but can you guess who it is?

A legendary EastEnders icon looked different from her 1990s heyday when she took to the red carpet.

The talented actress appeared regularly in the BBC soap opera from 1993 to 1998, before taking the lead role in Bend It Like Beckham.

She also starred in the 2005 film Chicken Tikka Masala and more recently was featured in Greg Davies’ hit comedy The Cleaner.

She looked different from her soap opera days when she stepped outside for a special screening of her most recent film project Polite Society.

Shobu put on a glitzy show in a red mini dress embellished with a string of silver beads, which she styled with rouge heels.

She swept a black cover-up over her shoulders to complete her look and kept her essentials in a burgundy handbag with an envelope.

The Citizen Khan star styled her lustrous raven black locks loosely over her shoulders in a straight fashion and accentuated her features with a touch of rouge.

She was joined at the lavish event by a host of stars, including TV presenter Anita Rani.

The One Show star, 45, looked stylish in a black dress and beige jacket, which she paired with white heeled boots for the occasion.

Also present was activist Malala Yousafzai, who attended the event with her husband Asser Malik.

Shobu celebrated the release of her latest film Polite Society, in which a martial artist-in-training tries to save her older sister from her impending marriage.

The comedy drama follows Ria (Priya Kansara) as she enlists the help of her friends to pull off a wedding heist for her sister Lena (Ritu Arya) in the name of independence.

Shobu stars as Ria and Lena’s mother Fatima in the action movie, which is directed by Nida Manzoor and will premiere on April 28.

Shobu is best known for starring as the long-suffering wife of market trader Sanjay (Deepak Verma) in EastEnders for five years, before leaving the soap opera.
