A woman and three boys have been killed after their car crashed into a pole and rolled off an embankment on a country road days after Easter.

Emergency services were called to an intersection of Research Road and Toorak Road, Yanco, 7km south of Leeton in southern NSW, at around 11.15pm on Tuesday evening following reports of a single vehicle accident.

It is clear that the vehicle had crashed into a pole and then deflected off an embankment into a water channel on its roof.

All four occupants of the vehicle died at the scene before emergency services arrived.

It is believed to be a 36-year-old woman and three boys aged 10, 11 and 12 who are all related.

Police investigate a one-off car accident that tragically claimed four lives

No further details are available at this stage.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers.

It comes as NSW Police launches Operation Easter 2023 – a highly visible traffic operation aimed at reducing road fatalities and trauma this long weekend.

The five-day operation begins on Thursday and runs until Monday at 11:59 p.m. with double demerits.

The tragedy occurred in Yanco near Leeton in the Riverina region of NSW

The operation will mainly focus on speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fatigue, not wearing seatbelts and helmets and the use of mobile phones.

“This Easter, our officers will do their best to keep the roads safe so everyone can get to their destination in time for a wonderful weekend with loved ones,” said Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander Tracy Chapman.

‘The message is simple; drive at the speed limit, focus on the road – not your phone, and make sure you have a plan B when you drink.

“For the past two years, we have seen seven fatalities on the road every Easter weekend. The goal this year is to reduce that number.’
