Lee Dixon was surprised by the reaction of Arsenal defender Ben White to the Gunners’ 1-1 draw against Southampton on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side lost points for the second time this season and saw their lead at the top of the Premier League halved to two points with the result, which White described as ‘troublesome’ after full-time.
Through the mirrorDixon described the defender’s response as “over the top,” claiming he should “take it on the chin and move on.”

“I think the first half was really good,” White told ViaPlay after the game.
“We created a lot of chances and should have scored more. We probably should have stopped the game in the first half and we didn’t.
“(We were) sloppy in possession, didn’t win any duels, unlike in the first half and so the game went the way it was. We’re only human, it’s difficult.’
Dixon was stunned by White’s negativity and wondered why he seemed so gloomy after the result.

“Wow, are they beaten 8-0?” he asked. “Yeah, that was a bit over the top.
“He feels what he feels, but I still think this season, if you play like that in the second half, you have to take it on the chin and go, ‘Yeah, we didn’t play great, move on to the next’. But he was very down, wasn’t he?
“I think (Arsenal’s poor finish) it would have been Mikel’s concern at half time because you always remember the game that just ended. and how it went for them in the second half.
“It was very similar, this time Southampton got the goal. But tomorrow, when he’s toned down his view, he’ll say it’s a good point because they could have lost that game in the end.”
White was unconcerned about assisting Xhaka’s first-half goal, claiming ‘it’s about the team’
White assisted Arsenal’s goal, which was scored by Granit Xhaka, but that proved no consolation to the 25-year-old.
He said: “Of course it’s great to be a part of it, but it’s about the team and unfortunately we didn’t win today.”
The Gunners will try to win again when they play in the Europa League against PSV on Thursday, before playing the competition in Nottingham Forest this weekend.
