Arsenal legend Lee Dixon believes Brighton urgently needs a striker after Tuesday’s standoff with Nottingham Forest.

The Seagulls failed to make it onto the scoresheet for the third game in a row as manager Roberto De Zerbi’s quest for the club’s first win continues.

Brighton lost some chances to score after 19 shots, but in the end they had to settle for a point against the struggling side of Steve Copper.

Dixon insists Brighton is as they were last season. Speaking to Amazon, the 58-year-old said: “They’ve never been productive anyway. Not much has changed for the purpose.

“Ultimately, it’s not like they need one player to solve it. You basically want a striker to take on most of the pressure in that department.

“You can score from midfield, but you need a central striker who is going to score goals and they don’t have one. They haven’t had one in a long time and they’re catching up to get bits and pieces.”

Danny Welbeck has been used as the centerpiece of the team this season, but has yet to make it onto the scoresheet in 10 appearances, despite having three assists to his name.

Meanwhile, Denis Undav, who returned from a loan spell at Union SG this summer, has played just 43 Premier League minutes.

Aluko reflected Dixon’s views, saying: “I think Brighton needs a striker. They have to look for a productive striker in January. They do everything right leading up to the box.

’19 shots Brighton should actually score and get away with three points’.

The draw with Forest keeps Brighton seventh in the ranking. They will be hopeful for their first win under De Zerbi when they head to Manchester City on Saturday.
