Lee Carsley awkwardly takes a seat in the wrong dugout in first blunder as England interim manager ahead of Nations League clash with Ireland

Lee Carsley’s time as caretaker England manager got off to an awkward start as he sat in the wrong dugout ahead of the Ireland match.

The 50-year-old made his first appearance as England manager at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday for the Nations League season opener.

The match is expected to mark the start of a six-game trial period for Carsley, which could lead to him being promoted permanently as head coach of the Under-21 team.

Just before kick-off, Carsley went to sit in the home side’s dugout but was told he was in the wrong place.

He initially saw the humor in it and grinned before walking to the right dugout.
