LeBron James sends message to Los Angeles as NBA postpones another Lakers game amid wildfire tragedy

LeBron James prays for the end of the ‘nightmare’ engulfing Los Angeles as wildfires continue to devastate California.

By Saturday morning, the disaster had already claimed the lives of at least eleven people and destroyed more than 10,000 structures.

Lakers coach JJ Redick and Warriors coach Steve Kerr are among those who lost their homes in the flames.

And as firefighters continue to battle the blazes around California, James sent a message to the people of his adopted hometown.

“I pray this nightmare ends soon!” the four-time NBA champion wrote on social media. “So many prayers,” he added.

The wildfires have disrupted the sports calendar in Los Angeles, with Saturday’s game between the Lakers and San Antonio Spurs postponed.

The NBA also postponed the LA Clippers’ game against the Charlotte Hornets, which was also scheduled for Saturday.

“The postponement of the games ensures that no resources are diverted from wildfire fighting,” the NBA said.

“The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association are donating $1 million… to support those affected by this disaster and are working with the Lakers and Clippers on ways to support longer-term relief and rebuilding efforts.”

Warriors coach Kerr lost his childhood home, while Redick’s home in Pacific Palisades was also destroyed.

The head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers admitted Friday that he “hasn’t cried or cried like that in years.”

“I wasn’t prepared for what I saw,” Redick said. “It’s total devastation and destruction.

‘I had to take a different route to the house, but I went through most of the village and everything is gone. I don’t think you can ever prepare for something like that. Our house is gone.”

Redick said the rented house burned down Tuesday while the Lakers were on the road in Dallas.

Redick’s wife, Chelsea, and their two sons were safely out of the neighborhood, but Redick drove into Pacific Palisades on Wednesday to see the impact of the fire.

“Everything we owned that was of any importance to us in the almost 20 years we were together and 10 years of parenthood was in that house,” Redick said.

“There are certain things you can’t replace, that will never be replaced.

‘The material is whatever. My family and I were dealing with the seamy side, the individual side of losing your home, and you never want to wish that on anyone. It’s a terrible feeling to lose your home.’
