‘His legacy in a word: Champion’: LeBron James, Serena Williams and Michael Phelps headline an impressive tribute to Tom Brady on Super Bowl game day after the iconic quarterback retired last week at the age of 45 years.
LeBron James and Serena Williams have paid tributes to Tom Brady in a stunning video reflecting on the legendary quarterback’s career leading up to the Super Bowl.
Brady will be a spectator today and the seven-time champion will watch knowing he will no longer have the opportunity to compete in the last game for the United States after announcing his retirement at the age of 45 last week.
Michael Phelps and Jordan Spieth also appear in the video with James and Williams to reflect on what Brady means to them.
It’s the King whose tribute is the most powerful: His words came days after the 38-year-old Lakers star became the NBA’s all-time leading points scorer.
“We all hear that Father Time is undefeated,” says James. “But while we’re in the position we’re in, we’re trying to slow down because we have so much more to give the sport.”

Brady confirmed his retirement last week in an emotional video posted to his social media.
‘What we are chasing is not just to be great. What we pursue is to be the greatest of all time. Seeing Tom playing one of the best games of football anyone has ever played, at any age, is very inspiring. Tom Brady’s legacy is one word: champion.
Williams, who announced her retirement from tennis ahead of the 2022 US Open with 23 Grand Slam titles to her name, said: “Time plays a very important role for an athlete.”
‘Time can run out and it can affect whether an athlete can win that game they needed to.
‘The hardest part of staying great over a period of time is that people want to catch up with you. You have to do things better, you have to surprise people. You have to, every year, go out and do something different because they come for me.
‘The first Super Bowl Brady played in, he was undeterred by the occasion. He looked him square in the eye and said, “I’m going to take you down, I don’t care who I’m playing, I don’t care what the stats say, I’m going to do this.”
Phelps, a 23-time Olympic gold medalist, said: ‘I’m not afraid to dream as big as I can. I’m not afraid to think about things that no one thinks.
I never back down from a challenge. Look at Tom Brady, he never backs down from a challenge.
Three-time golf major winner Jordan Spieth said: “I think what makes Tom Brady great is his mental ability to slow down time and make decisions so quickly.”
“Tom Brady’s greatest legacy will undoubtedly be the duration of the greatness that he has displayed throughout his career, I mean, it’s just insane.”
Brady announced his retirement on February 1 in a video he posted on social media.
Brady retired as a seven-time Super Bowl winner, most recently in 2021 with the Bucs.
I am leaving forever. I know the process was a big problem last time, so when I woke up this morning I thought I’d hit record and let them know first.
It won’t be long. You just get a super emotional retirement essay and I used mine last year so… really thank you all so much for supporting me.
‘My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go on forever, there are too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I would not change anything. I love you all.’
