LeBron James has breathed new life into the seemingly never-ending storyline of him running for the NFL on Thursday Night Football.

A longtime admirer of football, both at the college and pro levels, James revealed that he is still “itching” to play in the National Football League.

He has not played the sport since his high school days at St. Vincent-St. Mary and being 37 years old all count towards The King.

However, that didn’t stop him from thinking about what could and could have been on a special episode of The store on TNF.

“Still have that itch to play?” asked James’ business manager Maverick Carter.

“Yes, yes, I still feel like playing,” James replied emphatically. “I’m itching, man.”

When asked what position he would play by guest and entertainer extraordinaire, Jamie Foxx, James listed the great room as his most likely home.

“Wide receiver, sure,” he said. “If I was in the red zone, definitely in the red zone. One-on-one… me out there with one of those little corner kicks. Just throw it over, just throw it over.”

James may have missed out on his league entry, but he’s had chances to grace the roster.

During the 2011 NBA lockout, James was courted by a litany of NFL teams, whom he confirmed during an MNF broadcast last year.

The Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks both offered James a contract during the basketball sabbatical.

“That’s true,” James told Peyton and Eli Manning. “Jerry Jones offered me a contract, as did Pete Carroll in Seattle during our lockout.

“It definitely got my blood flowing again, my mind raced again when I thought about the football game, being there on Sunday.

“We were able to get a deal done in the NBA and I was back on the field in no time. But I’ve certainly thought about it.

“I still have the sweater Jerry and Pete Carroll sent me from 2011!”
