Former Barcelona star Gerard Pique fell into a hole on the podium at the start of his Kings League Americas competition on Tuesday evening.
The Kings League is a seven-on-seven tournament created by Pique in Barcelona last year, and he now wants to bring the event to North America.
Pique attended the launch event and after a presentation he made his way to the side of the stage to greet fans.
The 36-year-old appeared to be listening to a voice message on his phone and went to grab a Barcelona shirt from a fan to sign it, but saw no gap between the stage and the barrier keeping the fans back.
As a result, Pique fell through the hole and disappeared completely from view, leaving fans anxiously looking over the barrier to check that he had not been injured.

There was no sign of Pique for several seconds afterward, and after the fall of about two meters there were fears he could be seriously injured.
However, it is understood that he managed to escape from the incident unscathed.
The World Cup winner has been regularly in the news over the past year and a half after his divorce from pop star Shakira last year.
The couple, who have two children together, announced the end of their 11-year relationship in June 2022, with Shakira claiming Pique had been unfaithful.
Shakira is known for producing some of the world’s biggest pop hits for over two decades, including “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Whenever, Wherever.”
The dance moves that accompany her singing have made her a natural stage performer, while Pique’s moment on the big stage went badly wrong on Tuesday.
Pique is now in a relationship with Clara Chia Marti, who is ten years younger than him.
Pique retired from football at the beginning of this year after spending fifteen years at Barcelona.
Before that, he spent two years at Manchester United, where he won the Premier League and the Champions League with the club.
Since hanging up his boots, Pique has turned his attention to making his Kings League idea a success, working with other notable former footballers including Iker Casillas and Sergio Aguero.
He will hope that his unfortunate fall from the podium on Tuesday was not a sign of things to come.
