The mother-of-one eventually returned to the show in late March and shared that her son was no longer completely healthy.
‘Hello everyone. I’m saying hello from my dressing room here. I’m back with Funny Girl tonight,” she said on social media.
The mother-of-one continued: “I’m really happy to be back. It’s been a really long week and we’re still not completely out of the woods with our son, but he’s moving in the right direction and we’re really thankful.”

In late March, the Broadway star revealed on her Instagram stories that her two-year-old was suddenly hospitalized and shared a photo of her son resting in bed with a stuffed animal close to him.
“I’m so sorry, but unfortunately I won’t be with @Funnygirlbwy today.
“We are in the hospital with our son who is dealing with a scary health issue that requires me to be here,” she wrote in a caption above the photo.
While she didn’t disclose the health issue, the actress added, “I’m so sorry. Please send us some love and strength.”
Soon after, the show’s own Instagram page also announced that “Today, Wednesday, March 22, Lea Michele will be leaving both the matinee and evening performances. Julie Benko will be your fabulous Fanny!”
The actress took to her Instagram stories again to express her gratitude for all the “well wishes” she and her family had received, followed by a quick update.

Lea has played the lead role of Fanny Brice since her opening night in September 2022, having replaced Beanie Feldstein.
Lea’s role in Funny Girl ends on September 3, 2023 and she is looking forward to spending more time with her son.
When asked about her plans when the show ends, she told ET on Tuesday, “Oh my god, I’m going to spend as much time as possible with my son and rest.
“And just let my body recover from this show and be a mom to a three-year-old.”
She said he was three because by the time the show ends, her son will be that age.
The Scream Queens star has received critical acclaim for her turn as Fanny Brice, and the production’s box office records have been broken, Lea still processing the “incredible” performance, but ultimately her family life comes first.
She said, “I’m really trying my best to take a moment to process these amazing performances along the way because they really are so incredible.
“But at the end of the day, it’s like I wake up, I’m a mother, I take care of my son, I go to work at night, we have so much fun.”
A final farewell: In March, it was announced that Michele’s final appearance would be on Sept. 3 later this year, according to Variety; seen in 2022
“And at the end of the day, I think all these achievements are so great. But the fact that we have so much fun at the same time, as a cast on that stage, that’s really the most important thing.’
While Lea has appeared on stage before, Funny Girl will be her first time closing a Broadway production, and she teased that there will be some special moments for fans.
She said, “Our show closes on September 3, when I leave. I’ve never closed a show.
“I’ve left most of the time, so it’s going to be interesting, but we’re going out with a bang. I’ll tell you we have a few surprises for my last night that I haven’t told anyone about yet.’
