Law enforcement officers in New Jersey kill man during shootout while trying to make felony arrest

MONMOUTH CONNECTION, NJ — Law enforcement officers in New Jersey killed a man during a shootout Wednesday as they tried to arrest him on several charges, authorities said.

Officers from a U.S. Marshals Service regional task force and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives attempted to execute an arrest warrant at a Monmouth Junction motel around 2 p.m. and the man opened fire, the New Jersey The Public Prosecution Service reports this in a statement.

Officers returned fire and killed him, officials said. No officers were injured and police found two firearms on the man.

The man’s name and other details of the shooting were not immediately released. The Public Prosecution Service says it is investigating.

The officers involved in the arrest warrant are part of a regional fugitive task force for New York and New Jersey, which also includes marshals and local law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed which agencies the officers involved in the shooting were from.
