Federal agents investigating the death of Matthew Perry are “confident” they can charge the suspects involved in his fatal drug overdose.
It was reported Friday that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) plans to charge “multiple people” with drug distribution resulting in death or serious bodily injury.
For the first-degree crime, they could face a minimum prison sentence of 20 years.
When the Friends star died last year at age 54 and the autopsy was later released, the LAPD launched an investigation into the circumstances of his overdose.
According to reports, officers are investigating and want to charge more people than just drug dealers.

According to TMZAuthorities are reportedly investigating doctors who prescribed medications that were “not medically necessary,” as well as Charlie Sheen’s ex-wife Brooke Mueller.
Last month, a law enforcement source told People that any future action would ultimately be determined by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
TMZ also reported that the DEA agents tasked with investigating the “death-related” charge are reportedly the same ones who arrested the suspects and closed the case in Mac Miller’s fatal drug overdose in 2018.
A search warrant was executed for the actress, with whom Perry reportedly had a “romantic relationship” nearly two decades ago, after she was questioned “multiple times” by authorities about his fatal overdose, a source told the outlet.
Mueller has never been arrested or handcuffed in connection with the investigations, sources said. In contact She cooperated with the criminal investigation.
The outlet also reported that she was not at the sober living residence where she was staying when police arrived with a search warrant in May, but that she was “fully cooperative” when she returned from working out.
According to reports, authorities have seized an iPhone and a laptop from her.
A source told the newspaper that she remains “determined she had nothing to do with” Perry’s death. However, the actor’s ex-girlfriend, Kayti Edwards, said she believes Perry and Mueller may have reconnected in his final years.

Edwards, 48, alleged that Perry and Mueller began dating after meeting in Alcoholics Anonymous nearly two decades ago, around the same time she was dating him, according to The American Sun.
“They certainly didn’t first meet in rehab, we all met in AA in 2006,” said Edwards, who later worked as Perry’s assistant in 2010 and 2011. “She and I were seeing him at the same time, there was no boyfriend-girlfriend relationship — we just had a relationship.”
The actor was determined to have died in an accident and the autopsy report released in May revealed that the actor died from acute effects of ketamine.
Contributing factors were cited as drowning, coronary artery disease and the effects of buprenorphine, a prescription drug often used to treat people with opioid addiction.
It was later reported that Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy at the time of his death.
In December of last year, a medical expert speculated to Page Six that the actor had “likely” obtained ketamine illegally for “recreational use.”
Although Perry was undergoing ketamine treatment for anxiety and depression at the time of his death, the autopsy report stated that “the ketamine in his system at death could not have come from that infusion therapy.”

In collaboration with the DEA and the U.S. Postal Inspectorate, the LAPD subsequently launched an investigation into the origins of the ketamine that “played a role” in the actor’s death.
TMZ reported at the time that an investigation was underway to determine where the actor, who battled alcoholism and drug addiction for years, got the ketamine.
“Law enforcement sources tell us an investigation is underway into where Matthew obtained the ketamine that ultimately played a role in his death. The key questions are who supplied the drug and under what circumstances,” the outlet reported.
It was also previously reported that authorities had spoken to “several key figures in Hollywood” known to have a history of drug use or abuse, who “may have information that could lead to the source,” the report said.
