Laurence Fishburne joins cast of Netflix fantasy-drama series The Witcher: ‘I’m very excited’

Laurence Fishburne has signed on for the upcoming fourth season of the fantasy drama Netflix series The Witcher.

According to Varietywill play 62-year-old performer Regis, a barber-surgeon with a dark and uncertain past who joins forces with the show’s protagonist, Geralt of Rivia.

The actor, who was recently linked to filmmaker Petra Richertova, released a statement to speak about his casting, saying: ‘I am very excited to join the cast and look forward to exploring the wonderful world of ‘The Witcher’ to explore.’

The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski.

The show centers on Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter by nature, as he attempts to bring peace to the land while navigating his complex relationships with Crown Princess Cirilla of Cintra and sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.

The show’s cast was originally led by Henry Cavill, although he stepped down from his role prior to the release of the show’s third season.

It was then revealed that Geralt of Rivia would be played by Liam Hemsworth, and the Justice League star gave the actor his blessing to continue in his place.

Artists including Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Eamon Farren round out the programme’s cast.

The eight-episode first season of The Witcher debuted on Netflix in December 2019.

The second run of the program, which also lasted eight episodes, would not be released for another two years.

The third season of The Witcher was split into two parts, with episodes released in June and July last year.

The show as a whole has received generally positive reviews from critics and currently holds an 80% rating Rotten tomatoes.

An animated spin-off film titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, centering on Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, was released in August 2021.

Another animated film, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, is scheduled for release later this year.

The Witcher universe was also expanded with the release of the prequel miniseries The Witcher: Blood Origin, which debuted on Christmas 2022.

The program received largely negative reviews from reviewers, many of whom cited the show’s lack of fidelity to the source material as their main criticism.

The fourth season of The Witcher currently has no scheduled release date.
