KIIS FM radio host Lauren Phillips was stunned by her co-host Jase Hawkins’ dating confession on Tuesday.

Jase admitted on the broadcast that in his twenties he would only date women with a driver’s license – because he couldn’t drive himself.

He admitted he was a “late bloomer” who didn’t learn to drive until age 26, so had to rely on other people — mostly girlfriends — for rides.

“When I was in my mid-20s, I would only date a girl if she was licensed,” he said.

‘Because I didn’t have a permit. I had just moved to Sydney.’

A shocked Lauren asked, “Why didn’t you have a driver’s license?”

“I was a late bloomer,” Jase replied sheepishly, causing Lauren to burst out laughing.

‘What were you doing? Take the tram?’ she said.

Jase explained that he lived in Perth in his early 20s and didn’t need to drive, so he put off getting his driver’s license until he was 26.

While many teenagers learn to drive as soon as possible and see it as a road to independence, more and more Australians are waiting until later to get their driver’s license.

Young women are also more likely to have a driver’s license than young men, data shows.
