Far-right Republican Lauren Boebert wants to impeach Joe Biden over what she claims is his ‘dereliction of duty’ in failing to stop migrants entering the US

The Colorado congressman’s motion has little chance of passing because the Democrats control the Senate and will not vote to remove the president from office.

Boebert, 36, said the commander-in-chief “deliberately handed over command and control of our border to cartels.”

“His dereliction of duty caused the deaths of more than 900 Coloradans from fentanyl, enabled sex trafficking and enabled invasion,” she said announcing her plans to file the motion to impeach Biden.

Her six-page impeachment motion accuses the 80-year-old of “constantly, openly and consistently violating federal immigration law by pursuing an aggressive open-border agenda.”

The topic of immigration and the stream of asylum seekers sneaking into Mexico’s southwestern border will be a hot button theme in next year’s presidential election.

But several Republicans have already said they will even vote against the move.

Sources close to Kevin McCarthy told the DailyMail.com on Wednesday that the House Speaker had told GOP colleagues that now was not the time to remove Biden from office.

He urged Republicans to allow the various Congressional inquiries into the Biden family to take place before attempting an impeachment.

Bobert’s move comes after court documents show a plea deal for Hunter Biden on tax violations and a gun misdemeanor charge.

White House spokesman Ian Sams said “extreme House Republicans perform baseless political stunts that do nothing to help real people and serve only to draw attention to themselves.”

The number of migrants crossing the crossing is said to be lower than when Title 42 was initially dropped, but the issue is a hot button topic in the 2024 presidential election.

Under the so-called Title 8 provisions, asylum seekers take part in a ‘believable fear’ interview with an officer or judge.

If they fail, they will soon be able to board a plane back to their home country or Mexico through an expedited removal procedure.

Otherwise, they can start the lengthy asylum process.

Those whose claims don’t hold up potentially face more serious consequences.

This includes a five-year return ban on those who entered the country illegally and possible government prosecution of people who try to cross the border again and again.

According to Customs and Border Protection, border crossings have dropped from more than 10,000 a day to about 3,500 a day since Title 42 ended.

It’s not the first time GOP members of Congress have tried to hold the president accountable for impeachment attempts over migration issues.

Boebert said she used a procedural tactic to force each member to state their point of view on the record.

Other Republican impeachment attempts have targeted Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas rather than Biden.

Last week, the GOP launched a new investigation that could serve as the basis for an eventual impeachment by Mayorkas.
