Laura Woods has explained her recent absence from television by revealing she is recovering from surgery after suffering serious injuries to her face and arms while on holiday.
The 36-year-old is best known for hosting TNT Sports’ Champions League, Premier League and boxing coverage after joining last year from talkSPORT, where she starred as the breakfast show presenter.
However, Woods has missed television duties in recent weeks and was noticeably missed ahead of Tyson Fury’s heavyweight unification fight which will take place in Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Woods has now revealed the extent of her serious injuries, caused after a glass lampshade shattered on her in an attempt to quash speculation about her absence.
Giving a public update on her condition, Woods posted a series of gruesome images to her Instagram page, alongside a lengthy explanation of what happened and the subsequent surgery she underwent.

‘I just wanted to explain my absence from television, to be completely transparent and avoid any speculation. Last weekend I had an accident at a holiday home,” she said.
“I swung a pillow and hit a large glass lampshade hanging from the ceiling above me, which shattered and cut my face and arms, but luckily missed my eye,” she continued.
Woods then expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her boyfriend Adam Collard and the medical staff who rushed to perform surgery on the former winner of the Sports Journalist of the Year award.
Her post continued: ‘I just wanted to say a few thanks, firstly to Adam for being my hero that day, acting so quickly and not leaving my side since, and to his family who took care of me at a time when I petrify.
“To my agents Alex Maguire and Matthew Odonohue at CAA who immediately sought the best help. To Doctor Yannis Alexandrides and his wonderful medical assistant Zuzanna from 111, who opened their emergency surgery and came in on their days off: They were so gentle and have already performed magic that I didn’t think it was possible to limit the damage.
‘I’ve included the pictures from then to now to show that even though it may look rough, it’s already such a great improvement and I’m so grateful.
‘It was a huge shock and I was a bit sad, but I’m lucky it wasn’t worse. So also a big thank you to my eyebrow, because I am the victim of it.
‘I’m sad that I won’t be able to cover the fight in Riyadh tomorrow, but I wish the brilliant TNT boxing team all the best. Come back soon xx,” she added.

The worst injuries were sustained to Woods’ face after the glass cut her around the right eyebrow and blood flowed into her face from deep cuts that required stitches.
One of the images shared by Woods shows the presenter in pain as bandages attempt to temporarily stop the flow of blood caused by the broken lampshade.
She also posted an image of the glass lampshade in question which Woods accidentally hit with a pillow and then shattered the glass throughout the vacation home.
Woods was full of gratitude for those who helped her through the worst of the accident and had special praise for her friend and former Love Island contestant, Collard, for being a ‘hero’.
Collard was present with Woods at the time of the accident and, as explained by the presenter, rushed to the scene and provided a calming presence at a time when she was “petrified.”
The pair only recently went public with their relationship in October and appear to have spent many private getaways together prior to their latest cottage drama.
Woods previously declared her ‘love’ for the 28-year-old who commented on her Instagram status and showed off her injuries with a message that read: ‘little trooper’ alongside three love hearts.
Woods initially feared the worst when she suffered the injury, but is amazed at the surgery and follow-up work on her face that has done wonders to the cuts above and below her eye.
The emergency surgery was completed by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Yannis Alexandrides, the founder and medical director of the popular London clinic 111 Harley St.
Personal consultations with Dr Alexandrides at the expert facility cost £350, with the establishment being one of the top plastic surgery specialists in London.
